Everton at risk of losing Kean to PSG

Everton are at risk of losing Moise Kean to Paris Saint-Germain on a permanent deal as Il Bianconero report that they want to keep him at all costs.

Everton should give Kean another chance

The Toffees should really think about giving Kean another chance at the club based on his form so far in the French capital in 2020/21.

The former Juventus ace has scored no fewer than 15 goals in just 27 matches in total across all competitions this season, and three of those have come in the Champions League (Transfermarkt).

Former PSG striker Pauleta was full of praise for Kean in February, describing the Italy international as a ‘very talented’ player, and there is no doubt that he has shown his talent for the 2019/20 Champions League finalists.

Although it did not quite work out at the Toffees, the youngster only had one full campaign at Goodison Park and should be given another season at least to prove what he can do.

It takes time for some foreign players to adapt to life playing in English football, and the 21-year-old perhaps needed a loan move away in order to regain some confidence.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the Blues will be looking for no less than €45m-€50m (£38.7m-£43m) to sell the striker in the summer, but Everton should not be so quick to jump the gun.

Andreas Sondergaard praises Ruben Neves

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Wolves goalkeeper Andreas Sondergaard has revealed that Ruben Neves has impressed him the most since his move to Molineux.

The 20-year-old has been training and recovering with the first team this season to gain valuable experience and learn what’s required to play at that level.

Wolves have so much quality in their squad and have top quality players in each position, often more than one in each area of the pitch.

Sondergaard walked into a highly talented squad three years ago and was taken away by the talent on show during both training sessions and matches.

With internationals all over the pitch at Wolves, it is a tough choice to select one who has impressed him the most, but when asked by Football FanCast, Andreas Sondergaard replied:

“I’d probably say Ruben Neves. I knew before I came in that he was a good player.

“It’s always different, like watching them on the telly and then starting to train with them.

“I wasn’t really surprised but, yeah he was a really good player. He is a really good player.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/exclusive-andreas-sondergaard-wolves-premier-league” title=”Exclusive! Andreas Sondergaard talks all things Wolves”]

“Definitely one of those where I was thinking, ‘oh, yeah, he will go really far with his talent’.”

The Danish shot-stopper is constantly surrounded by world-class talent at Wolves, however, Neves is a footballer who can make things look effortless on the pitch.

At such a young age, Sondergaard can certainly use Neves as a role model when it comes to settling into a new country and making your mark on the first-team.

Sander Berge swoop could create formidable Spurs midfield unit

Tottenham Hotspur could be looking to bolster Jose Mourinho’s midfield armoury, if recent reports are to be believed.

According to French outlet Jeunesfooteux, Spurs are considering a summer swoop for Sheffield United powerhouse Sander Berge, with the Blades staring down the barrel of a likely relegation.

The 23-year-old became their club-record signing for around £22m when joining Bramall Lane in January 2020, and could now be available for just €26m (£22.5m).

Berge, when fit, has been one of the only shining lights for the struggling Sheffield giants this season and he possesses all the attributes to potentially become an ideal partner for the impressive Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in a formidable duo that could become Spurs’ best since that of Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama.

Indeed, the Danish summer arrival has remained a constant in Mourinho’s starting XI having played from the off in all 28 league fixtures, but he’s been joined by a plethora of names throughout the campaign, ranging from Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele to Harry Winks.

Neither offer the best skillset to be a true box-to-box option alongside the more defensively-minded Hojbjerg.

In terms of his ability in Spurs’ own third, Berge is impressive off the ball having averaged 1.6 tackles (2019/20) and 1.2 tackles (2020/21) per game, via WhoScored, since swapping Genk for the Blades.

Both returns see him well-placed amongst the current Spurs squad – by comparison, his 1.4 average across both seasons matches Ndombele (1.4), and eclipses that of Sissoko (one) and Winks (0.8). It’s even more central defender Eric Dier (0.8).

This shows that he’s prepared to put in the hard graft to win the ball back for his side, which should please Mourinho as his other options in the role aren’t doing that to the same standard.

Whilst in the attack, Berge likes to roam forward – averaging 1.5 dribbles, 0.9 key passes and 0.8 shots per game this term alone.

It means the Norwiegen is only behind Harry Kane and Heung-min Son for creativity, managing to make more chances than supposed no.10s Giovani Lo Celso (0.8 key passes) and Ndombele (0.5), whilst he’s accrued more dribbles than the aforementioned duo – perhaps a surprise given Son’s ability on that left flank.

Spurs know too well about his presence in the final third as he fired United into the lead back in their embarrassing 3-1 defeat in July 2020.

Berge’s box-to-box capabilities were summed up by his recently-departed boss, Chris Wilder, who told VG: “I just have to say it: Sander has been unique. He is the one who has stood out for us. He is a complete midfielder. He can play as an 8 and as 6. He can play in different formations.”

On the above evidence, the midfield monster – valued at £35m by CIES Football Observatory – would be a fine addition to Mourinho’s squad.

Imagine him alongside Hojbjerg, with an Ndombele, Lo Celso or Dele Alli having the freedom to operate as they like further up the pitch.

Daniel Levy could seal a formidable engine room for the future by swooping for the 6 foot 5 Blades sensation.

Wolves fans want Massengo

Some Wolves fans have expressed their desire for the Midlands club to sign Han-Noah Massengo after the Bristol Post reported that they are watching him.

As per the news outlet, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team are also watching Tyreeq Bakinson and Antoine Semenyo, but it seems as if Massengo is the one that Wanderers supporters really want.

The 19-year-old has played men’s football from a very young age and has even played in the UEFA Champions League before with his old club AS Monaco, making three appearances in total in the group stages of the 2018/19 term.

A central midfield player by trade, Massengo could be the start of a new generation at WWFC, with Joao Moutinho now 34 years of age as they will surely be looking for a replacement for him sooner rather than later.

Aston Villa fans slam Fulham transfer suggestion

Plenty of Aston Villa supporters have been reacting on social media to Lee Hendrie’s Villa summer transfer suggestions.

Dean Smith has brought in five permanent additions to his squad this season, totalling £88.34m in transfer fees.

Ross Barkley also arrived on loan, and it seems as if the club will be active in the market once again at the end of the current campaign.

Hendrie’s Fulham trio

Talking to Football FanCast, former Villa midfielder Hendrie was asked who Villa should be looking to sign in the summer.

The 43-year-old picked out Fulham trio Harrison Reed, Ademola Lookman and Bobby Decordova-Reid as possible options, should Scott Parker’s side suffer relegation, with the latter of the three seemingly top of his wishlist.

“If Fulham do go down, I just feel that there’s possibly a couple of players I would certainly look at in that team that would certainly stand out for me. [Harrison] Reed in the midfield, [Ademola] Lookman and Bobby Decordova-Reid, he’s one again that I’d certainly have, and he would play week in, week out.”

Villa fans react

Hendrie’s comments were shared in a story on Birmingham Live, with @AVFC_News then posting the piece on Twitter on Tuesday evening.

Numerous Villa supporters quickly gave their thoughts to Hendrie’s transfer suggestions, with many not impressed.

Leeds must offload Barry Douglas

According to reports, Leeds defender Barry Douglas is set to leave Elland Road this summer once his contract expires with the Premier League club.

What’s the story?

The 31-year-old is currently spending the season out on loan at Championship side Blackburn and has been a near-permanent fixture in Tony Mowbray’s starting line-up, making 25 appearances in the league alone.

However, Football Insider now claim that, with his contract at Leeds coming to an end this summer, Marcelo Bielsa and co have no intentions of offering him a new deal to extend his stay in Yorkshire.

The report added that Douglas is set to follow Gjanni Alioski out the exit door this summer.

Ruthless call from Bielsa

Given how Douglas has only made 44 appearances for Leeds since joining from Wolves in the summer of 2018, the time has surely come for Bielsa to wave goodbye to the left-back this summer.

Speaking earlier this season, The Athletic’s Phil Hay hinted that the writing seemed to be on the wall for the £40,000-a-week earning Douglas at Elland Road, saying: “It tells its own story that Stuart Dallas is currently the best left-back at the club. There is interest, Watford are very keen, Blackburn have spoken about him.

“On the basis that he didn’t make the 18 against City, when Jack Harrison was unavailable, if, in those circumstances, Douglas isn’t in the 18 you know he’s on his way.”

Subsequent confirmation of his loan move to Blackburn really painted a picture of just how far his stock has fallen at Leeds, and why the club must make a ruthless call and just let him go as a free agent this summer.

Meanwhile, Victor Orta pulled off an absolute masterclass for Leeds with this signing…

Rangers should give Defoe a new deal

Jermaine Defoe’s contract with Rangers is set to expire at the end of the season and despite his lack of playing time under Steven Gerrard this season, Ross Wilson should give him a new deal to stay at Ibrox.

The former Tottenham Hotspur man joined Rangers from Bournemouth in January 2020 after an initial loan spell from Bournemouth and has contributed an impressive 29 goals and 10 assists in his 66 appearances for the Light Blues thus far.

Although the 38-year-old has barely featured so far this season, making just 14 appearances in all competitions, the majority of which have come from the bench, he has still managed four goals and two assists for Gerrard’s side.

In a recent interview, Defoe suggested that he was keen to play for another season so that he could finish his career in front of fans, which is something Gerrard and Wilson should definitely consider before they let the veteran forward leave the club on a free transfer in the summer.

Even if the former England international doesn’t feature much in Gerrard’s side next season, he could still have a big influence at the club in a player/coach capacity, as who better to coach Rangers’ current strikers and youngsters than one of the best finishers of the past two decades?

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-rangers-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Read this week’s latest Rangers news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Having an experienced player such as Defoe in the dressing room could also be key to helping Rangers defend their title next season, as well as adding some Champions League experience to their ranks, so there seem to be very few reasons why the striker shouldn’t be offered new terms if he is willing to take a lower salary.

Back in 2019, Alan Hutton was full of praise for Defoe, saying:

“Honestly the guy is unbelievable, to be 36 and be that fit…to keep himself in that good shape to be called upon at any time to come on and score, to be honest, it amazes me what he has done.”

[freshpress-quiz id=“588789″]

Defoe is undoubtedly still in top shape despite his age and even though he might not be a regular in Gerrard’s side next season, Wilson should offer him a contract extension simply because of the influence he can have both on and off the pitch.

Wolves fans gutted over Jimenez update

Some Wolves fans have been left to bemoan an injury update on Raul Jimenez as the Daily Mail have reported that he may not play again this season.

As per the news outlet, the Midlands club remain determined to remain prudent over the Mexico international’s return to the team.

He returned to training with his teammates in March, although he is still not able to participate in contact sessions, and must have further assessments before being cleared to head the ball.

Jimenez has clearly been a big miss for the Molineux outfit, as his goal record speaks for itself, scoring no fewer than 47 times in 118 games in total over all competitions across three consecutive terms for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side (Transfermarkt).

RFC: Gers dealt blow in pursuit of Murphy

According to recent reports, Glasgow Rangers have been dealt a huge blow to hopes of bringing Jacob Murphy to Ibrox this summer, as sources revealed information concerning the winger’s contract.

The report by Football Insider claims that a Newcastle United source has revealed, contrary to reports his deal is expiring this summer, that Murphy will actually not be available to Rangers on a free transfer.

Indeed, the 26-year-old still has one year remaining on his deal at St. James’ Park.

This will come as a shock, as Steven Gerrard’s side would now have to agree a fee with Newcastle if they wish to land the £25,000-per-week forward this summer, potentially ruling the Ibrox club out of the race to land the former England U21 international on a permanent deal.

It goes without saying that a free transfer would have been far more attainable, so the surprise news that Murphy’s contract is actually 12 months longer than was previously known is certainly a blow.

Transfer Tavern Take

With Murphy currently being valued at £3.15 million by Transfermarkt, a deal for the winger may not be out of financial reach for Rangers, although, with it previously being reported that the 26-year-old would be available for free, the news is likely to come as a blow to Ross Wilson and co.

With Newcastle having paid £10.17 million for Murphy back in 2017, should the Magpies attempt to recoup anywhere near this amount of the winger this summer, it is not a difficult scenario to imagine Rangers turning their attention elsewhere in the transfer market.

Everton fans laud Aarons transfer update

Many Everton fans have been left to laud a transfer update by Paul Joyce on Max Aarons.

Writing in his latest piece for The Times, the football journalist has claimed that the Goodison Park faithful have ‘identified’ the Norwich City ace as a potential option at right-back in the summer window and will look to ‘haggle down’ his £30m asking price.

Aarons is reportedly ‘keen’ on moving to Merseyside, but the Canaries are not budging on their valuation for a player who still has three years left on his current deal at Carrow Road remaining.

With Seamus Coleman at 32 years of age now, Carlo Ancelotti’s team certainly need to think about finding a long-term replacement for the Republic of Ireland international, and at 21 years old and clearly with a lot of potential, Aarons could well fit the bill for the Toffees.
