Manchester United make Christian Eriksen offer

Manchester United have made an offer to sign Christian Eriksen on a free transfer, according to David Ornstein.

The Lowdown: Eriksen’s impressive Premier League return

Eriksen made a move back to England with Brentford at the beginning of the year, penning a contract until the end of the season.

It didn’t take long for Eriksen to catch the eye with the Bees, with Gary Neville labelling the midfielder’s passing as ‘out of this world’.

The 30-year-old won seven games in 11 starts with Brentford, contributing to five goals mainly from a slightly deeper midfield role than we’re used to seeing him. He is now weighing up his next move, and it looks as if Erik ten Hag is keen to bring the Denmark international to Old Trafford.

The Latest: Ornstein’s reveal

Ornstein took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon to provide a significant update on Eriksen’s future.

The reliable reporter revealed that United have ‘made an offer’ for the midfielder, with Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong still a priority.

The Verdict: Shrewd move

United could do with midfield additions following confirmed exits for Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata, leaving Bruno Fernandes as the only recognised senior attacking midfielder.

Eriksen would give Ten Hag another high-quality attacking midfield option who has plenty of experience in the Premier League and in Europe.

He’d also be able to turn out in a deeper role or out wide, and after showing last season he still has the quality to star in England, a free transfer could turn out to be an excellent piece of business.

Tottenham: Alasdair Gold shares Djed Spence update

Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has now shared an update on the Lilywhites’ pursuit of Championship starlet Djed Spence.

The Lowdown: Tottenham eye Spence move…

According to recent reports, Spurs are still well and truly in contention to sign the 21-year-old, who dazzled on loan at Nottingham Forest from Middlesbrough over 2021/22.

Spence was a key figure and mainstay in Forest’s push for Premier League promotion, making a ‘significant’ contribution for manager Steve Cooper as he started 41 league matches and earned the squad’s sixth-highest rating from WhoScored.

As such, the north Londoners are reliably believed to be keen on signing him for Antonio Conte, and while some reports suggest that a fee has been agreed, Gold has come out with a claim to the contrary.

The Latest: Gold shares Spence update…

The football.london journalist took to Twitter after seeing ‘confirmation’ from the Boro side that no club is in advanced talks to sign Spence just yet.

However, Gold did go on to say that ‘early’ developments are expected this coming week.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Make the move…

Homegrown and possessing bags of potential as an attack-minded wing-back -he was included in the EFL Championship Team of the Season – we believe that signing Spence should come as a no-brainer for Tottenham transfer chief Fabio Paratici.

Described by ex-Spurs full-back Alan Hutton as an ‘incredible’ player who ‘massively fits the bill’ for Conte (Football Insider), the possible arrival of the 21-year-old could also help to fix a glaring issue with Spurs’ unbalanced homegrown quota.

Reports suggest that he is valued at around £20m, and while that could be viewed as a considerable investment for someone so young, we believe that a defender of his ilk may well be worth the gamble.

Carvalho set for pre-season role at LFC

New Liverpool signing Fabio Carvalho will be used in the front three during the Reds’ pre-season, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Carvalho signs for Liverpool

The youngster joined the Premier League giants from Fulham earlier in the summer, having shone for the west London club during their promotion-winning 2021/22 season.

Carvalho scored 10 goals and registered eight assists in the Championship last term, which clearly caught the attention of Jurgen Klopp and the recruitment team at Anfield.

The 19-year-old can play in midfield or in a more attacking role, and an interesting update has emerged regarding Liverpool’s proposed use of him.

The Latest: Jones makes Carvalho claim

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones claimed that Carvalho would be trialled in the front three by Klopp during Liverpool’s pre-season.

The reporter suggested:

“They’re going to test out Fabio Carvalho in that frontline in pre-season, just to see whether he’s actually ready for it and it might be that he gets more of a role next season in that frontline than we might envisage.”

The Verdict: Great option to have

Versatility is always a bonus in any player and Carvalho possesses that in abundance, which only adds to his potential brilliance as a signing.

The former Fulham man can excel in a number 10 role, which has been his main position, but it will be interesting to see him in attack, likely cutting in from the left-hand side in a similar vein to Luis Diaz.

While Carvalho is unlikely to be a regular starter straight away next season, a strong pre-season for Liverpool in attack could show that he is more than ready to be a mere impact substitute.

3 Tips to Start Winning More Football Bets

Have you recently gotten into betting on football, but have still yet to see any substantial winnings? Then you may just be going about it the wrong way. Placing the right bets and making a solid profit from them is by no means easy, and getting to know all the pitfalls of sports betting will take you years of failing if you try to do it on your own. Instead, read on as we go through three valuable tips for making better bets. You’ll be surprised how quickly your bets will start paying off with just a few simple adjustments.

Compare Odds to Maximise Your Wins

Before you start placing your bets, it’s important to make sure that you’re choosing the best place to do so. Many beginners tend to focus on picking the right outcome to bet on and then just choose whichever site they come across first to place it on – when in actuality, they should be giving equal amounts of attention to both choices.

The first bookmaker you find is not necessarily the one with the best odds. Sure, the usual suspects at the top of your Google search look safe. But there are many other, albeit lesser known sites out there. For instance, NetBet offers betting and casino games and are just as trustworthy – and who knows? They may very well offer the best odds out there for your next bet.

Keep Up With Team and Player News

Next, if you want to consistently take home big wins from your bets, you need to stay updated. Because if your info isn’t correct, detailed and fresh, how will you ever accurately guess the outcome of a game – other than by pure coincidence, which is impossible to replicate for your next bet?

Instead, make sure to follow and regularly check all relevant channels of information on your favourite team and their players. For instance, if you’re betting on one or two star players to save your team next season, knowing if they’re in transfer negotiations is of utmost importance. Or, even worse, if a key player gets injured before a big match, it can greatly affect the outcome – and either make you a lot of money or leave you broke.

Research and Listen to the Experts

Last, but not least, don’t solely rely on your own analyses and the opinions of friends, family and other football fans. While you may often be right, there’s no getting around that, as enthusiastic fans, you’re bound to be biased. Focusing on the performance of your favourite team is completely natural, but it may blind you from their faults and distract you from seeing potential in other teams.

To get the full picture, we recommend that you find a few trustworthy expert sources to go to for second opinions. Many newspapers – like, for instance, The Telegraph – have pages dedicated to betting tips and analyses, and during pre-game coverage, networks will usually do live interviews with experienced experts as well.

Besides this, there are countless blogs, YouTube channels and many other types of communities out there for you to sift through for betting research. All in all, there’s really no excuse for placing an uninformed bet. So get to work!

Kalvin Phillips set for Man City medical

Kalvin Phillips is now set to undergo a medical at Manchester City on Friday ahead of completing his switch to the Etihad.

The Lowdown: City win the race

The 26-year-old had been heavily linked with a move away from Elland Road after Leeds only just managed to maintain their Premier League status last season, with West Ham and Aston Villa both tabling bids for the midfielder, but it was the top-flight champions who won the race for his signature.

It was announced by Sky Sports just last week that a deal had been agreed for the England maestro to join Pep Guardiola’s side, and in a fresh update, it now looks as though the transfer is almost officially over the line.

The Latest: Phillips set for medical

In a new article published by Football Insider, it’s claimed that a City source has told the website that Phillips is ‘pencilled in for medical tests’ on Friday as the club edge ever closer to securing their target.

The report states that all paperwork is now ‘in place’ for the Whites star to be officially announced as the Sky Blues’ next signing ‘within days’, with the player ‘set to double’ the wages he currently earns at Leeds.

The Verdict: Fernandinho replacement

After Fernandinho departed City to return to his former side Athletico Paranaense, Phillips will be the perfect replacement for the ex-captain in the middle of the park and is someone who will be able to bring a fresh energy to the starting XI.

The 23-cap international only made 20 appearances under Jesse Marsch in the Premier League last campaign after suffering from injury, but still managed to make a real impact when on the pitch, averaging 2.7 tackles and 3.5 long balls per match, via WhoScored.

Having this ability of being able to both attack and defend box-to-box is something that is so important to Guardiola’s control in the middle of the park, and Phillips will definitely add some serious competition for Rodri as he looks forward to the start of a new chapter in his career in Manchester.

Rangers: Romano drops Ferguson update

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is now set for a Glasgow Rangers transfer disaster over a target who the Ibrox side were keen on.

What’s the news?

The news surrounds perennial Rangers target Lewis Ferguson and how Aberdeen have agreed on a fee with Serie A side Bologna in the region of €2.5m (£2m) according to Fabrizio Romano, who tweeted: “Bologna are now set to sign Scottish midfielder Lewis Ferguson, deal in place with Aberdeen. It’s done for €2.5m & add-ons.

“Ferguson will fly to Italy tomorrow to undergo medicals and then sign the contract.”

Van Bronckhorst will have to move on to other potential targets as Ferguson moves to Serie A and supporters will be gutted the club missed out on the 22-year-old.

Rangers will move on

Ferguson’s move to Serie A proves that Scotland is still continuing to produce excellent talent and there is genuine hope that he goes and shines in Italy.

Many thought Ferguson would have followed in his uncle’s – Barry Ferguson – footsteps and joined the Ibrox side at some point in his career – with Gers having been linked with a move this summer – but it now appears as if any deal will have to wait a few years.

This season represents an important one for the Gers as they aim to wrestle the Premiership title from Celtic. The 22-year-old excelled last season in a campaign that saw Aberdeen struggle majorly, he scored 16 goals in all competitions and his performances obviously stood out to Bologna.

His attacking talents were regularly demonstrated and he could have scored even more, with the midfielder having 3.34 shots per match, while also missing three big chances.

With Joe Aribo on the verge of leaving Ibrox, the Dutchman will need to replace his creativity and Ferguson could have been ideal. He managed 0.8 key passes, created two big chances, and took 76.2 touches per match.

The fear is that the Scotland international excels in Italy and seals a bumper move to the Premier League, giving the Gers no hope of matching either transfer fee or wage demands.

It looks like that ship has sailed and Van Bronckhorst will move on quietly to other targets.

Manchester United chase Gabriel Veron

Manchester United are interested in signing Brazilian starlet Gabriel Veron from Palmeiras this summer.

That’s according to reports via The Sun, who claim that the Red Devils had been interested in the winger in the past, but will now look to make a move as the £10m price tag has enticed them.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-man-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-more-nunez-ten-hag-nkunku-richarlison” title=”Read the latest Man United news!”]

The teenager has been linked with several top European clubs, and is likened to Gabriel Jesus in this report.

Erik ten Hag could look to bolster an underperforming attack with this exciting Brazilian star in the making.

The next Vinicius Jr

Gabriel Veron burst onto the Brazilian scene during the U17 World Cup, hosted in his home nation, where he helped his side become world champions.

Boasting incredible pace, power, trickery and technique, the youngster won the Golden Ball award and has continued to impress since.

Similar to Vinicius Jr, who made his move straight from Flamengo to Real Madrid as a 16-year-old in 2017, perhaps United could plan ahead and reap similar rewards to that of Los Blancos.

Last season Vinicius Jr was involved in 30 league goals, and for just a reported £10m, it is a relatively risk-free signing with the potential to reap world-class rewards.

Bebeto, who won the 1994 World Cup with Brazil, had plenty to say about the youngster with a huge future in the game: “He’s a kid with enormous talent.

“I looked for more information about him and I was impressed once I saw him wearing the No.7 producing beautiful plays.

“I watched him score a goal dribbling from almost his own half before finding the net with a quality finish, calmly beating the opposition goalkeeper.”

Veron is still just a kid playing adult football, yet still averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.02 in CONMEBOL Libertadores. He is naturally still growing, but to receive such high praise at such a young age sets him apart from the rest.

He managed just six goal contributions across 33 games in all competitions last season, and has steadily increased year on year.

As aforementioned, for a relatively risk-free amount, Erik ten Hag could nurture this Brazilian teenager into their very own Vinicius Jr and reap potentially unlimited rewards.

Alan Hutton drops Spurs replacement claim

BBC pundit Alan Hutton believes that Tottenham Hotspur could replace Sergio Reguilon with Ryan Sessegnon if the Spaniard leaves north London this summer.

The Lowdown: Sevilla in talks for Reguilon

The 25-year-old still has three years remaining on his contract with the Premier League giants, but the left-back has been linked with a move away from the club after it was revealed last weekend that he had been omitted from the Lilywhites’ pre-season tour of South Korea.

A Spurs source told Football Insider on Tuesday that Reguilon was in advanced talks over completing a loan move to Sevilla, so an exit this summer very much appears to be on the cards.

The Latest: Hutton backs Sessegnon

Asked by Football Insider whether Tottenham would be open to letting the defender leave, Hutton said: “I think they’ll still listen to offers. I think Antonio Conte is still searching for the right dynamic when it comes to the left wing-back and the right wing-back. He still seems like he’s searching at this moment in time.

“Djed Spence looks like he’s a possibility for the right, Reguilon on the left.

“I like him as an attacking player, he came from Real Madrid, there was a lot of hype about him. Defensively, I still think that’s where he lets himself down just like Emerson Royal on the other side.

“I think to play in a Conte team you have to do both very well. So, if there is an offer that comes in they will listen to it.

“You’ve got the likes of [Ryan] Sessegnon who ticks a lot of the boxes, he’s still young, he’s hungry to learn and develop so he’s got options there. But if a decent fee comes in I think they will listen to it.“

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Long-term vision

It yet remains to be seen where Conte is planning on deploying Ivan Perisic on the left-hand side, but if the 52-year-old is going to play the Croatian as a natural winger, then Sessegnon does have the defensive quality to hold down a position in the backline.

The former Fulham starlet was only granted 13 top-flight appearances last season but made a positive impression when he was on the pitch, averaging 1.7 tackles and 1.5 clearances per 90 minutes (via WhoScored).

At just 22 years of age, Sessegnon has already shown glimpses of what he’s capable of producing in the starting XI, and Conte could see him as part of his long-term plans having included him in his squad for the Asian pre-season tour.

Therefore, the youngster could go on to become a first-team regular at Spurs and back up Hutton’s faith in him.

Newcastle set to miss out on Benjamin Sesko

Rumoured Newcastle United target Benjamin Sesko, a striker for RB Salzburg, is likely to remain in Austria, according to reliable journalist Mark Douglas.

According to a report by Sportsmail (via Daily Mail), the Magpies are admirers of the 19-year-old forward and he is being tracked among a list of potential targets.

Newcastle are working within Financial Fair Play restrictions and thus have been priced out of moves for Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak and Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby.

The Daily Mail states the likes of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are interested in making a move for Sesko next summer, meaning the Magpies may need to act fast to secure his signature for the long-term.

The Latest: Douglas’ news

Douglas has shared the latest news on Newcastle’s pursuit of the young attacker.

Taking to Twitter, the reliable journalist claimed:

“Interesting #nufc link w/ Benjamin Sesko, 19-year-old RB Salzburg striker, this morning – sparked partly by agent posting he’s in Newcastle on Instagram.

“Agent schtum now & sources in Salzburg who’ve spoken to club manager (sporting director) Christoph Freund this AM feel he’s likely to stay.”

The Verdict: Huge potential

The Slovenia international made 24 appearances in the Austrian top-flight last season, during which he scored five goals and produced three assists (via Transfermarkt).

Furthermore, the 19-year-old made six appearances in the Champions League, featuring in his side’s starting XI on two occasions.

As a result, it is easy to see the player’s potential, given the huge trust already bestowed in him by Freund.

If Newcastle can convince the striker to join them at St. James’ Park, this would be a great signing for the Toon, but it looks like they may have to wait a year and battle it out with some of Europe’s heavyweights.

Forest on the verge of signing Mangala

Nottingham Forest are on the verge of signing VfB Stuttgart midfielder Orel Mangala.

What’s the latest?

That’s according to Sky Sports Deutschland reporter Florian Plettenberg, who revealed in a recent post on Twitter that Steve Cooper’s side are now closing in on a €15m (£13m) deal for the 24-year-old, which is set to be agreed in the next few hours.

In his tweet, the journalist said: “News Mangala: Next one from the Bundesliga! Mangala is on verge to join Notts Forest. Last details have to be clarified. Negotiations since days. Transfer fee around €15m – bonus payments included. All parties hope for a total agreement in the next hours.”

If the Garibaldi manage to secure a move for the Belgium international it would undoubtedly represent a major coup for the club, with fellow Premier League clubs West Ham United and Crystal Palace also linked to the player this summer.

Supporters will love Plettenberg’s update

Supporters will love to hear the news that their club is set to sign yet another player, they face a tough challenge to avoid relegation next season and need all the help they can get.

Mangala certainly provides the step up in quality that they desire. The Belgian has proven to be a key player for Stuttgart and has produced impressive performances, so it’s no wonder several clubs have shown an interest in him.

If you compare him to his positional peers in Europe’s big five leagues over the past 12 months, he ranks in the top 1% for the number of players dribbled past and the top 5% for successful dribbles that led to a goal.

Those numbers prove just how good he is on the ball and at 24 years old he’s only going to get better. If Cooper lands this deal then it could be his most significant yet.

The Belgian also created four big chances last season, which is the same amount as new signing Lewis O’Brien and more than Jesse Lingard.

With these recent additions as well, the club could find themselves with a midfield that many of their rivals next season will be jealous of, and it will be sure to give them the best chance of staying up.

Cooper will be delighted with his additions so far this summer, and in a very competitive transfer market, he has every reason to be.
