Mohammad Kaif, the former India batsman, is set to leave Uttar Pradesh and join Andhra for the upcoming domestic season.Kaif, who has led Uttar Pradesh to two Ranji Trophy finals, had a miserable first-class season last year. In 11 first-class games, Kaif managed just 265 runs at 16.56, failing to raise a fifty. After UP were bowed out in the Ranji quarter-finals to eventual champions Karnataka, Kaif found some form by hitting two fifties in the central zone one-dayers. Following the the lackluster season, Kaif contested the general elections for the Indian National Congress but lost from the Phulpur constituency in UP.According to Andhra Cricket Association’s director of cricket MSK Prasad, Kaif’s form with the bat was the last thing on their mind when they decided to rope him in.”For a side like ours with an average age of 22, we were looking to bring in someone experienced who could lift the spirit of the side,” Prasad told ESPNcricinfo. “Kaif is one guy who can build that spirit within the team. That’s the reason we have picked him.”Andhra finished third from bottom in the lowest rung of the Ranji Trophy last year. With Amol Muzumdar, the domestic stalwart who was a professional with them for two years, leaving Andhra midway through the season, the young side lacked the finishing touch towards the end of the season.”Our youngsters need a role model to look up to, one guy who they could look up to and walk up to for anything they require,” Prasad said. “We couldn’t have asked for a better person than Kaif for this role. He is someone who has achieved the maximum with minimum cricket.”Kaif spent some time at the ACA academies last month and was impressed with the facilities. According to Prasad, Kaif is “looking forward to the challenge”. Kaif will work with the new coach R Sridhar, who has replaced New Zealander Kaushilk Patel as the head coach for the new season.

New Zealand wicketkeeper Kruger van Wyk has been appointed captain of Central Districts for the 2014-15 domestic season. Van Wyk will take over from Kieran Noema-Barnett, who served as captain for the last two years and led the team to the Plunket Shield title in 2012-13.”Kieran’s done a great job over the last two seasons but he’s got aspirations to play at the international level and, from that point of view, we want to give him the optimal opportunity to concentrate on his own game,” Heinrich Malan, Central Districts’ coach, told . ”It’s got nothing to do with Kieran as such. We made the decision with him and to give him the best opportunity to play at a higher level. He’s on board with that and happy for us to have the best interests of his career at heart.”Van Wyk was captain of Canterbury Wizards when they won their first state championship title in 2008, but he was stripped off the captaincy during the 2009-10 season, after which he joined Central Districts. Since then, he has occasionally been captain in a stand-in capacity, and Malan believed van Wyk’s natural leadership skills boded well for the team.”He’s been an MA [Major Association] captain before and he’s played international cricket so, from a pedigree point of view, he ticks all the boxes. Every time we get ourselves in trouble, at 120 for 5 or something, he comes in at seven and he’s the grinder and the battler and he leads from the front in all aspects,” Malan said. “Kruger is a different kettle of fish when it comes to cricket. He overthinks and over-analyses, so it’s going to be good for me to challenge him in a different way and for him to challenge me.”Van Wyk has played nine Tests for New Zealand, but he was dropped after a poor series in Sri Lanka in 2012, when he made 41 runs at an average of 13.66. He has not played an international match for almost two years.

أوضح وكيل مدرب الزمالك الأسبق، جيسوالدو فيريرا، حقيقة اقترابه من تدريب الترجي خلال الفترة المقبلة خلفًا للمدرب، معين الشعباني.

وكان الشعباني قد قرر قبل أيام الرحيل عن الترجي، ووافقت إدارة النادي التونسي على استقالته وفي الوقت الحالي يبحثون عن مدرب جديد.

وارتبط فيريرا في الساعات الماضية بحسب بعض المصادر الصحفية في تونس بإمكانية تدريب الترجي في الموسم الجديد بعد أشهر من الرحيل عن الزمالك.

وكان المدرب البرتغالي قد رحل عن الزمالك في مارس الماضي بعد الفوز ببطولتي الدوري المصري وكأس مصر قبل موسمين.

Australia’s coach Darren Lehmann has said an allrounder capable of bowling a significant number of overs will definitely be part of Australia’s side during the upcoming Tests against Pakistan in the UAE. Mitchell Marsh appears likely to be that man after Shane Watson was ruled out of the tour with a calf injury, although the offspinning allrounder Glenn Maxwell is another option.Lehmann also said that fast bowler Mitchell Johnson would not be in doubt for the Tests and was also likely to play the three preceding ODIs, despite being pulled out of the Champions League Twenty20 due to a rib problem. Australia’s one-day and Twenty20 squads were due to fly out for the series on Sunday night ahead of the first game, a one-off T20 next Sunday in Dubai.The limited-overs games will be followed by a four-day tour match in Sharjah ahead of the two Tests in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and the warm-up match looms as important for several reasons. Firstly, it will give the selectors a clear indication of the fitness of captain Michael Clarke, who is battling a hamstring injury, but may also provide Marsh with a chance to prove his worth in the longer format ahead of a likely Test debut.”I think it puts competition on everyone,” Lehmann said of Marsh, ahead of the team’s departure on Sunday. “Shane [Watson] knows he needs to be an allrounder. We’ve spoken to him about that. We just want him fully fit when he comes back and plays.”It’s a big summer coming up and with the heat over there the allrounder would have to bowl a lot more than probably four or five overs. He would probably get by as just a batter maybe but we need him as a fully fit allrounder.”Lehmann said Australia would “definitely play an allrounder” in the UAE and although Marsh is the odds-on favourite, the offspinner Maxwell is also in the Test squad. When Australia’s touring party was named, the chairman of selectors Rod Marsh said Maxwell was lucky to have been picked but that he provided the “x-factor” in the group.The selectors have also indicated that they would be unlikely to pick both Maxwell and Nathan Lyon in the same side, given both turn the ball the same way. A more probable scenario is for Lyon and left-armer Steve O’Keefe to play alongside each other, although Lehmann said he was hoping for more fourth-innings wickets from Lyon as the frontline spinner.”It’s a hard time because the last day of a game you expect him to win the game,” Lehmann said. “He’s bowled well in the first innings of Test matches but when it’s come to the crunch he hasn’t delivered as he would have liked or we would like.”He knows that, he’s worked really hard on that. It’s about putting good balls in the right spot more often. If he improves that aspect of his game his record would be outstanding.”The spinners and the allrounder will have a heavy bowling workload in the heat of the UAE, which will be necessary to allow Johnson and his fast-bowling colleagues to operate in shorter spells. Lehmann said Johnson would miss the T20 match to allow him more time to recover from his rib injury but he is expected to be available for the three ODIs.”We’re lucky he’s done a fair bit of bowling before [the injury] so it won’t be an issue,” Lehmann said.There is less certainty around the fitness of Clarke, who will travel to the UAE early to continue his recovery, despite already being ruled out of the ODI series. Lehmann said the tour match against Pakistan A would be “telling” in determining whether Clarke would play in the Tests or whether Brad Haddin would become Australia’s 45th Test captain.
