As lembranças são impressionantes, voltar aqui sempre me traz boas recordações.

Neither Bangladesh nor West Indies are at the top of their game coming into Tuesday’s encounter

The Preview by Siddarth Ravindran24-Mar-2014Match factsTuesday, March 25, 2014

Two teams who aren’t at the top of their game come together in Tuesday’s clash. Bangladesh, the hosts, have had a forgettable 2014 so far, with lacklustre showings in the home series against Sri Lanka and the Asia Cup which were capped by a defeat to Hong Kong in the first phase of the World T20. West Indies, the defending champions, have lost seven of their previous ten T20s, including their opening game in the World T20, where they went down meekly to India. After the lukewarm start in the loss against India, talk about West Indies’ ability to take singles again got plenty of airtime ahead of the Bangladesh game. Whether it is through singles and twos or through big hits, West Indies need a victory over Bangladesh, as their remaining games in a tough group are against Australia, who are rated among the tournament favourites, and a formidable Pakistan outfit. Defeat to Bangladesh won’t eliminate West Indies, but it is likely to mean that their chances of making the semi-finals are not in their hands, leaving them needing to win their remaining matches besides hoping other results go their way.Bangladesh, despite their defeat to Hong Kong, have achieved their first goal: of reaching the Super 10s and thus avoiding the ignominy of having to watch a party in their backyard from the sidelines. They are positioning themselves as spoilers in a group of heavyweights, and can be tricky opponents, especially at home if the track suits their array of spinners.Form guide (last five matches, most recent first)

In the spotlightAs someone who strikes at around 130 in T20s, Dwayne Smith will want to make amends for his torturous 29-ball 11 against India that robbed West Indies of any momentum at the start of the innings. With Chris Gayle expected to stick to his method of biding his time early on, Smith is entrusted with the task of providing the opening fireworks. Bangladesh’s new-ball bowlers have a challenge on their hands.Chris Gayle had recently jokingly remarked that he had made Sohag Gazi famous by hitting him for six off the first ball of a Test. That was when West Indies last toured Bangladesh in 2012, but even on that tour Gayle didn’t exactly dominate – Gazi dismissed him three times in Tests and ODIs. The rivalry is set to resume on Tuesday, when Gazi is expected to be picked as a replacement for Farhad RezaTeams newsWest Indies coach Ottis Gibson has said they have to still take a decision on their quick bowling line-up: whether to bring in either the experienced Ravi Rampaul or the pacy Sheldon Cottrell in place of Krishmar Santokie. He wanted to take a close look at the conditions in Mirpur before taking a call.West Indies (probable): 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Dwayne Smith, 3 Marlon Samuels, 4 Lendl Simmons, 5 Dwayne Bravo, 6 Darren Sammy (capt), 7 Andre Russell, 8 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 9 Sunil Narine, 10 Ravi Rampaul/Krishmar Santokie, 11 Samuel Badree
Bangladesh are expected to make several changes to the side that went down to Hong Kong. With Rubel Hossain injured, Ziaur Rahman is likely to get a game while offspinner Sohag Gazi is set to replace the expensive Farhad Reza. They could also bring in Shamsur Rahman for Sabbir Rahman.Bangladesh (probable): 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Anamul Haque, 3 Shamsur Rahman, 4 Shakib Al Hasan, 5 Mushfiqur Rahim (capt & wk), 6 Nasir Hossain, 7 Mahmudullah, 8 Ziaur Rahman, 9 Sohag Gazi, 10 Abdur Razzak, 11 Al-Amin Hossain
Stats and trivia West Indies are the only top-eight team that Bangladesh have beaten in Twenty20s. Andre Russell’s economy-rate of 9.60 is the second worst among all those who have bowled more than 30 overs in T20Is. Only New Zealand’s Doug Bracewell (9.61) has a worse economy rate. With 42 wickets, Shakib Al Hasan is the joint highest wicket-taker, along with Abdur Razzak, in T20Is for Bangladesh. He is also 12 runs short of surpassing Tamim Iqbal as the highest run-getter in T20Is for BangladeshQuotes”It is hard to predict against West Indies. If they play well, we are finished. If it is not their day, then we have a chance to do well.”

“People will make assumptions based on what happened last night. India bowled well. We didn’t get singles but we don’t normally get singles. That’s the way it goes sometimes.”

T&T hand Leeward innings defeat

Trinidad & Tobago thumped Leeward Islands by an innings and 107 runs for their second win in as many games of the Regional Four Day Competition.Opting to bat first, T&T declared their innings at 458 for 7, driven by a maiden first-class ton from Akeal Hosein and fifties from Evin Lewis, Darren Bravo, Jonathan Augustus and Stephen Katwaroo. The batsmen put together solid stands, ending with a 197-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Katwaroo and Hosein, who ended with an unbeaten 102 off 185 balls.Leeward were blown away by T&T in their first innings, folding for 113 in a little more than 34 overs. Jahmar Hamilton’s 52 was the sole substantial knock in an innings where only one other batsman scored in double figures.Following on, with a deficit of 345, Leeward improved their batting performance in the second innings but, in spite of a fifty from Kieran Powell, scored only 238. A few Leeward batsmen got starts but Powell was the only one to reach fifty as the side floundered against legpsinner Imran Khan and pacer Shannon Gabriel. Khan finished with 5 for 53, his seventh five-for in first-class cricket, while Gabriel accounted for both openers in his 3 for 63.T&T, however, suffered a blow as Hosein was taken off the field during the final session of the third day with a thigh strain. As a result, he will miss the team’s next game against Barbados on Friday. Daron Cruickshank will come in for Hosein.Kirk Edwards struck his eighth first-class hundred in Barbados’ draw against Combined Campuses and Colleges, ensuring the defending champions took two extra points over their opponents at the end of the match.Edwards struck 109 off 204 balls and was involved in a 180-run, second-wicket partnership with Barbados captain Kraigg Brathwaite, who scored 91. Barbados struggled after a middle-order slide but Shane Dowrich and Carlos Brathwaite corrected the course of the innings with a 63-run partnership for the sixth wicket that helped the side declare at 356 for 9, earning a lead of 87 over CC&C.Earlier, CC&C managed only 269 in spite of fifties from three of their top four batsmen. Shacaya Thomas, Kyle Corbin and Chadwick Walton all hit half-centuries but CC&C lost wickets in clusters to squander their advantage. Kavem Hodge and Jomel Warrican boosted CC&C with a useful 56-run stand for the ninth wicket, before the side was dismissed for 269. Sulieman Benn was the most successful bowler for Barbados, dismissing two top-order batsmen before returning to wrap up the tail for figures of 4 for 66.Corbin followed his fifty in the first innings with another unbeaten half-century in the second, after the side was jolted by quick wickets. CC&C eventually scored 101 for 5 with Ashley Nurse and Benn ending as the key strikers for Barbados once again.Guyana and Windward Islands played out a thrilling draw at the Providence Stadium. Both the teams held the advantage at different points during the match, and in the end, Guyana’s tail held on to force a stalemate. It was Windward Islands who wrested the momentum early on, as batting first, they made 307 on the back of a century from Sunil Ambris (114) and his 156-run association for the fifth wicket with the captain Liam Sebastien. Christopher Barnwell was the pick of Guyana’s bowlers, and snared four scalps.Kenroy Peters then enforced Windward Island’s advantage by finishing with 4 for 42 to run through Guyana for 213, with Assad Fudadin’s 82 the only score of note. The hosts, however, fought back strongly as Veerasammy Permaul took seven wickets to dismiss Windward Islands for 114, setting Guyana a seemingly easy target of 209.At 117 for 3 and with more than 20 overs in the day still remaining, Guyana would’ve hoped to push on for victory, but three quick wickets from Kenroy Peters left the hosts soon precariously placed at 153 for 7. Anthony Bramble and Permaul then negotiated the final few overs safely as the contest ended in a draw.

Fábio falha no gol e Mano corrige formação

Pior defesa do Brasileiro

KP plans 5,000-mile T20 commute (if he's lucky)

Kevin Pietersen plans to play simultaneously in two Twenty20 competitions in England and the Caribbean as he becomes the ultimate jet-set commuter in his attempts to keep his career alive after his exclusion from the England side

David Hopps28-Mar-2014

Kevin Pietersen plans to play simultaneously in two Twenty20 competitions in England and the Caribbean as he becomes the ultimate jet-set commuter in his attempts to keep his career alive after his exclusion from the England side. The age of the itinerant T20 cricketer has been upon us for a few years, but Pietersen has taken it a stage further by seeking to play in England’s relaunched NatWest Blast tournament and the Caribbean Premier League at the same time.‏@KP24 – the Twitter handle which has now carries Pietersen’s pronouncements, official and unofficial, on life, the universe and everything – promised: “I will be fulfilling ALL my @surreycricket commitments and just flying into the Caribbean to honour this opportunity.”It remains to be seen, though, if this regular 4000-miles-plus commute has a beneficial effect on his ability to hit a cricket ball in the area to which it is intended, especially as his regular diet of in-flight meals would not be countenanced by the England cookbook. Just think, some people can become disorientated by a daily commute from Paddington to East Croydon. And, at least if the Kia Oval and the Caribbean are more than 4,000 miles apart that is nothing compared to the distance between England and Pietersen when it came to a meeting of minds. If Pietersen is fortunate when the draft is finalised in a bar owned by Chris Gayle in Jamaica on Thursday, he will at least have a direct flight. As he indulged in a spot of repartee on Twitter with Gayle about whether they would be team-mates or opponents, it was a decent bet that he had not considered the possibility that he might yet be signed by Guyana Amazon Warriors: now that would add a few hours to the journey time.Surrey, who are heavily promoting their T20 campaign around Pietersen’s involvement, were quick to confirm that his ambitious plans have their full blessing.Richard Gould, the chief executive, said: “Kevin is available for all our T20 fixtures once he gets back from the IPL in late May or early June. There are a couple of windows within our T20 season which coincides with the CPL where he can go out for the CPL, play some games there and still be available for all our games. We thought it was a good grown-up decision.Everybody knows that grown-ups like flying. Children grow up wanting to be engine drivers. His journey will be nearly three times as long as the match – although that distinction might lessen if over-rates keep sinking.Pietersen initially chose Surrey – and the NatWest Blast – ahead of the CPL as he rebuilt his career following England’s unparalleled decision to terminate his contract so publically after their 5-0 whitewash in Australia. He first broached the possibility of playing both tournaments, according to Gould, “two or three weeks ago.” He held discussions with Surrey’s new head coach, Graham Ford, an early mentor in South Africa, and their director of cricket Alec Stewart.Although factual enough, that is slightly misleading. He will play in the CPL on a “secondment clause” in his Surrey contract which allows a temporary change or relocation of position and duties. The clause was in there for a reason. It remains unconfirmed whether Surrey will also benefit from the arrangement.”He is contracted for all the T20 fixtures,” Gould said. “His contract allows him to play championship cricket and 50-overs cricket subject to his availability and we will see how that goes during the season.”The CPL is scheduled to run from July 5 to August 10. In that time, Surrey play their final five group matches in the space of a fortnight – all of which Pietersen has vowed to play. They have a home match against Glamorgan on Friday, July 11, the day after CPL launches (pads strapped on at Heathrow?), further matches on the Wednesday and Friday of the following week and then two games in 24 hours – a derby against Middlesex on Thursday, July 24, and a short trip to Canterbury (a mere bagatelle for a hardened traveller like Pietersen) to play Kent the following day. Before all this, Pietersen has agreed to captain the Delhi Daredevils in the upcoming Indian Premier League. It would be difficult to travel further afield to ply his trade. The Times recorded the discovery of a new planet far beyond Pluto today – temporarily answering to the name of 2012 VP113 – but nobody is entirely sure whether the Inner Oort Cloud has yet to catch on to Twenty20.”I’m delighted to be involved in this year’s Caribbean Premier League,” Pietersen said. “As soon as I was approached, I knew it was something I wanted to take part in. I have fantastic memories of playing T20 cricket in the Caribbean — especially when we won the 2010 ICC World T20 tournament — so I can’t wait to play in front of the magnificent Caribbean fans who create a truly unique and thrilling atmosphere.”Pietersen’s rejection by England has encouraged such open displays of affection. The love is spread upon all-comers. It remains to be seen whether it will be spread too thinly. If he pulls it off, there will be a few people envious of his air miles.
