An unbeaten 102 from Bipul Sharma, as well as half-centuries from Nikhil Gangta and Rishi Dhawan, left Himachal Pradesh on the verge of a big win over Assam in Dharamsala.Himachal were buoyed by their overnight batsmen recording a century-stand for the fifth-wicket as the score neared 250. But even when Dhawan departed for 58, Bipul joined Gangta and continued the scoring, adding 102 runs for the sixth wicket.Gangta struck 16 fours and a six during his knock, but fell one run short of what would have been his maiden first-class ton. Bipul put up two more useful stands- 58 for the seventh wicket with Ankush Bains and 50 for the ninth with Vikramjeet Malik- that took them to a mammoth 463 for 9, before they declared.Assam needed 382 to avoid an innings defeat, and that pressure told as they slumped to to 3 for 3 inside five overs. Wickets continued to tumble, with No. 7 Jamaluddin Syed Mohammad top-scoring with 37. However, he was dismissed in the 29th over, leaving the visitors at 97 for 6, with four wickets being shared by Dhawan and Malik.
ScorecardAn incisive bowling performance from Goa helped them bundle Tripura out for 174 and secure a 48-run first-innings lead in Porvorim. The spinners Shadab Jakati and Amit Yadav, and medium-pacer Harshad Hanumant Gadekar picked up three wickets apiece to run through a Tripura batting-order which offered no resistance barring a 60 from Abbas Ali, as the visitors were bowled out in 68.3 overs.Tripura lost their first six wickets for 105 runs, before Abbas and Manisankar Murasingh joined together for a 50-run seventh-wicket stand. Abbas struck six fours during his knock, but after his dismissal- caught off Jakati with the score on 155 – Tripura’s tail could only add 19 more runs before their innings came to an end.Goa’s openers Amogh Sunil Desai and Swapnil Asnodkar batted out the nine overs till stumps safely, to leave the team 86 runs ahead and in a strong position heading into the penultimate day. They were earlier dismissed for 252 in the first innings, with medium-pacer Rana Dutta finishing with 5 for 55.
ScorecardThe match between Andhra and Maharashtra remained evenly poised heading into the third day in Cuddapah.Vijay Zol and Kedar Jadhav hit fifties to propel Maharashtra to 196 for 3, as the team edged closer towards Andhra’s first-innings total of 317. The pair added 118 runs for the third wicket before Zol was dismissed for 73, having struck 12 fours. Jadhav however continued his fabulous run this season, making his way to an unbeaten 97 that included 14 fours and a six. A third consecutive century is on the horizon for Jadhav, after his 204 and 106 against Hyderabad and Goa respectively.Andhra, who began on an overnight score of 232 for 3, could add only 85 more runs to their total, as Domnic Joseph, Anupam Sanklecha and Akshay Darekar took three wickets apiece to clean them up in 110.1 overs.
ScorecardVA Jagadeesh’s thirteenth first-class fifty helped Kerala to 184 for 2 in reply to Jammu & Kashmir’s first-innings score of 377. Jagadeesh’s unbeaten 84 included 12 fours, as he participated in vital stands of 51 and 85 for the second and third wicket with Sanju Samson and Rohan Prem respectively to keep the match in the balance at the end of day two.J&K were at a healthy 312 for 4 when the day began, but collapsed and lost the remaining six wickets for 65 runs, as seamers Prasanth Parameswaran and Sandeep Warrier finished with four wickets each.

Boult swings NZ to innings win

West Indies succumbed to a third innings defeat in four Tests, collapsing twice to lose 16 wickets in a day to New Zealand’s swing and pace

West Indies succumbed to a third innings defeat in four Tests, collapsing twice to lose 16 wickets in a day to New Zealand’s swing and pace. In the first innings, they lost their last six wickets in 35 deliveries to crumble to 193. In the second, they stumbled from 74 for 0 to be dismissed for 175 about an hour after tea. It was New Zealand’s first win in 11 Tests in 2013 and also Brendon McCullum’s first as captain.Nine of the 16 wickets on the third day were taken by Trent Boult, who put on an exhibition of fast, accurate inswing bowling. McCullum enforced the follow-on again after the unsuccessful attempt in Dunedin, and Tim Southee rebounded from an average display in the morning to break the opening partnership and deliver three key wickets.Starting the day on 158 for 4, West Indies lasted just 12.5 overs, unable to adjust their gung-ho approach to tackle Boult. Four of Boult’s five victims in the morning were right-hand batsmen who insisted on driving at the original line despite the copious inswing. Boult ended with his best innings figures of 6 for 40, his final four wickets coming in just six balls.Narsingh Deonarine started the meltdown after being worked over by Boult and prodded a straightening delivery to first slip. It was the beginning of a swift end. Marlon Samuels, who’d timed a couple of fours down the ground, kept on trying the off-drive without much foot movement, and succumbed as Boult’s inswing induced a thick inside edge to the wicketkeeper. The next three batsmen were all bowled, refusing to adapt to the swing and not even managing an inside edge on their attempted drives. Darren Sammy lasted two balls, leaving a gaping distance between bat and pad as he drove weakly. As did Shane Shillingford and Tino Best. In the space of five balls.Southee completed the job in the next over, an outswinger hitting Shannon Gabriel’s off stump. It was a perfect demolition of the lower order, the last four batsmen bowled for ducks. The disappointment of Dunedin would have been on McCullum’s mind, but the momentum Boult generated was too intense to be ignored, and West Indies were sent in for another trial by swing. McCullum would have had thoughts of Dunedin again when Kieran Powell and Kirk Edwards put on 74 for the first wicket.Boult had been held back after a couple of overs, and Southee was brought back only after lunch. Though a wicket never looked far away, the openers survived against Corey Anderson and Neil Wagner. They were beaten numerous times, they fended off bouncers, but didn’t try to hit their way out of the pressure. Edwards scored his first boundary off his 72nd delivery, and also successfully reviewed after he was given out caught at short leg off Kane Williamson, replays showing there was no bat involved.Even as the deficit decreased steadily, Southee stepped up with a spell of 9-1-19-3 after lunch. Powell went for 36 in a manner similar to the first innings, missing a full one swinging into him. Wagner, who had charged in without too much consistency, produced a sharp lifter next over to have Dunedin double-centurion Darren Bravo caught behind off the glove for a duck. The shots started to appear now from West Indies as the pressure increased. Edwards tried driving Southee, only to be snapped up superbly by Williamson at gully for 35. Southee also ended Samuels’ desperate, uncertain attempts at hitting out, a feeble drive ending at third slip.It had been all Boult in the morning, it was to be all Boult in the afternoon. Returning to bowl before tea, Boult made immediate impact as Deonarine rode the bounce on one only to chop it on. After the break, he leaped at backward point to snatch Denesh Ramdin’s cut in his left hand. He then handed Sammy a pair, the West Indies captain lasting a collective eight balls in the match as he was trapped in front by an inswinger.Fittingly, Boult swung one in through the gate to bowl last man Gabriel to finish with 10 for 80, his best return in a match.

Guilherme é apresentado no Flu: 'Me sinto pronto e à disposição'

Pakistan’s bowlers, led by a stifling spell from Nida Dar, inflicted a heavy six-wicket defeat on South Africa in the first match of the PCB Qatar Women’s T20 series in Doha, two days after they had been routed by the same team in the final of the ODI series.Pakistan chose to bowl and picked up the wicket of Trisha Chetty in the first over before removing the other opener, Lizelle Lee, in the fourth. Mignon du Preez and Marizanne Kapp prevented the fall of wickets for another five overs, but their run rate took a hit as only two boundaries were hit in that period. The situation, though, worsened once Sana Mir removed Kapp. From 34 for 2, South Africa slipped to 39 for 6, with Sadia Yousuf striking twice.Dar bowled her first three overs for just three runs, but picked up two wickets in her fourth over – a wicket maiden – to further dent South Africa and they could only manage 64 in their 20 overs.Pakistan were two down for 26 in the seventh over, but Qanita Jalil and Nain Abidi pushed them to within five runs of the target with a 34-run stand. Even though both were dismissed within five balls of each other, Pakistan were comfortable and completed the chase with 36 balls to spare.
Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsPakistan’s bowlers were unable to repeat their first match heroics in the second game of the evening, losing by six wickets to Ireland. Defending 97, Pakistan struck twice in the eighth over to reduce Ireland to 37 for 3 but twins Isobel and Cecilia Joyce dropped the anchor. Ireland needed 56 runs from the last 10 overs and the twins kept their team ahead with frequent rotation of strike. Isobel was dismissed for 28 in the 16th over, but Cecilia ensured there were no hiccups thereafter as they comfortably achieved the target with two balls to spare.Pakistan’s innings earlier had followed the same pattern as Ireland’s; they also lost two quick wickets to be 38 for 3 at one stage. But Nida Dar and Bismah Mahroof added 59 runs in the second half of the innings. Dar was dismissed off the last delivery of the innings for 28, but Pakistan’s 97 was not enough.

Simmons hails victory over world champions

Phil Simmons, the Ireland coach, has hailed the upset win over the West Indies as a mammoth and much-needed confidence booster ahead of the World Twenty20 in March

Renaldo Matadeen20-Feb-2014

Phil Simmons: “It’s a big victory because we are in West Indies’ hometown so to beat the world champions, it’s going to give us a lot of confidence”•West Indies Cricket

Phil Simmons, the Ireland coach, has hailed the upset win over the West Indies as a mammoth and much-needed confidence booster ahead of the World Twenty20 in March. Simmons added that the fact that the win came in West Indies’ back-yard made it even more important to his team but warned his charges not to rest on their laurels as they look to close out the series on Friday.”It’s a big victory because we are in West Indies’ hometown so to beat the world champions, it’s going to give us a lot of confidence, especially going into the World T20s in March,” Simmons said. “It’s good for us to beat [ICC] Full Members and especially the better ones such as the West Indies.”Simmons believes that while many West Indian players were still feeling the effects from the Nagico Super50 tournament, the time his team had to rest and acclimatise gave them a slight advantage.”I think we’ve had more time to prepare and we were sharper today and got accustomed to the conditions. We bowled a lot better than we’ve done in the past and we also fielded a lot better. Our bowlers did the job and we came out on top.”Simmons praised the disciplined bowling of Alex Cusack as well as Tim Murtagh and Kevin O’Brien, all who scalped two apiece, to restrict the West Indies to a paltry 116 off their allotted 20.He added that they had high hopes for left-arm spinner George Dockrell who also helped stymie the West Indians with a tidy 1 for 15 from his four overs. “He’s been practising and working hard. He got his pace and his length well today and that’s what helped our other bowlers get the wickets. It’s nice to see him and Cusack back in form.”In their chase, Ireland took it to the last over before making 117 for the loss of four wickets but Simmons admitted that the batting needed improving if they were to mount a serious challenge in Bangladesh. Simmons said that changes were forthcoming as he wanted to bolster his batting as he believes they have a good understanding of the Sabina pitch now.”I don’t think the top couple of our batters batted as well as they could have. We did manage to end up batting smartly in the conditions though and it came down to a big partnership which is what you need in these circumstances, something around fifty or fifty-something,” he continued. He was referencing the 58-run fourth-wicket partnership between Ed Joyce (40 not out) and Andrew Poynter (32) as the turning point which helped stabilise his team after they got off to a nervous start. They were pegged to 37 for 3 in the seventh over but recovered to take the win.
