Many Everton fans have been left buzzing as a training ground image of Abdoulaye Doucoure was shared.

The club shared a picture of the midfielder in a training kit on their official Twitter channel, which duly sent some Toffees supporters wild.

Doucoure emerged as one of the team’s key players before he got injured earlier in the campaign, scoring two goals and supplying a further four assists in the Premier League, and it is certainly telling that Everton have not managed to win any of their last four league games without him in the squad (Transfermarkt).

Nonetheless, to see him pictured back in training ahead of their game away at Brentford on Sunday afternoon has come as a welcome boost, and Rafael Benitez will now hope that the Frenchman could now be involved against the Bees.

São dois os motivos que diminuem as chances do eleito melhor jogador da Américas de 2016. O primeiro, o próprio Deyverson. Apesar de ainda ouvir críticas da torcida pelo pênalti desperdiçado contra o Atlético-MG e o que não bateu contra o Barcelona (ECU), o camisa 16 vem se destacando nesta sequência de quatro partidas sem derrota no Brasileiro.

No período, o ex-jogador do Alavés (ESP) fez apenas um gol, contra o Galo, mas iniciou a jogada para Keno fazer 3 a 2 no Choque-Rei (Hyoran fechou o placar em 4 a 2 para o Verdão), e também teve participação no lance do gol da vitória sobre o Fluminense. Diante do time carioca e do Coritiba, o titular teve papel importante e foi um dos destaques, especialmente prendendo a bola na frente, disputando jogadas pelo alto, algo que Cuca cobra de seus centroavantes. A entrega tática é o principal trunfo de Deyverson, na visão da comissão técnica.

O segundo motivo é que Borja, em contrapartida, não tem se destacado em treinos, exceto os de finalizações. Na semana passada, ele até foi cobrado por Thiago Santos para participar mais sem a bola e se incomodou. Depois de conversar com o volante e com Cuca, o caso foi resolvido no mesmo dia e não teve repercussões.

As chances escassas não significam que o Palmeiras desistiu do atacante, contratado por R$ 35 milhões no começo do ano. Tanto que a diretoria recusou duas propostas por ele, e o técnico em algumas vezes o elogiou como um “menino bom”. Contudo, tomando como base os dois motivos citados, Deyverson é o titular do momento.

Com 34 partidas pelo Palmeiras, Borja foi titular em 17 e fez apenas sete jogos completos. Com sete gols, convive com um jejum de três meses, ou 14 jogos. A última vez em que começou uma partida foi no dia 6 de agosto, contra o Atlético-PR, quando Cuca escalou uma equipe reserva.

Nas últimas atividades da Academia de Futebol, após o entrevero com Thiago, o centroavante colombiano mostrou-se mais solto, brincando com companheiros e alegre. Mas contra o Santos, no sábado, Deyverson deve ser mantido, com Borja sendo uma opção para o decorrer do jogo.

Despite the unavailability of Benjamin Mendy this season, the Ukraine left-back has still seen his minutes reduced at Manchester City, with just six games played so far across all competitions.

However, he did impress in central midfield in their 2-1 win at home to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday night, helping to keep Lionel Messi quiet with his ‘mammoth effort’ (Manchester Evening News), as the Argentine superstar was reduced to just one shot at the Etihad Stadium.

Dubbed as an ‘exceptional’ player by Guardiola back in May, his ability to play in multiple positions could be so useful to Eddie Howe’s squad.

Everton are entering a new era under the stewardship of manager Rafa Benitez, and there’s set to be significant unrest as the alterations take time to come to the fore.

What’s the story?

Former director of football Marcel Brands followed ex-board member Sarvar Ismailov in departing the Merseyside outfit last week as owner Farhad Moshiri attempts to usher in a new-look setup.

However, the changes perhaps won’t go far enough for some. The Liverpool ECHO’s Phil Kirkbride has provided a behind-the-scenes update on Everton’s of the club’s plans post-Brands, outlining their reluctance to make any ‘radical’ changes.

Kirkbride’s report states that: “The existing board are set to lead a ‘strategic review’ of the club’s football structure following Brands’ departure as director of football after three-and-a-half years.

“The ECHO has been told that there is not expected to be a ‘radical’ overhaul of the club’s scouting and medical operations but the powers are looking at ‘streamlining’ how they work.”

Everton fans surely fuming

In recent years, Everton have become a byword for underachievement. The arrival of Moshiri back in 2016 brought a new wave of hope and optimism as it seemed the club finally had the finances to support their true potential.

But the Blues’ hierarchy splashed their newfound wealth with reckless abandon, bringing in an extensive list of underwhelming purchases for astronomical fees.

The likes of Alex Iwobi, Theo Walcott and Davy Klaassen were brought in without much thought as to where they would play, what benefit they would bring to the team and whether or not their price tags represented value for money.

A recent report by Football365 outlined the net spending from Premier League clubs since Moshiri took over the reins at Everton. And it doesn’t make for pretty reading for the Toffees.

Only four clubs have splashed more than the Goodison Park outfit’s total of £233.92m during the Iranian businessman’s time at the club, with their limited spending in the most recent window due to Financial Fair Play regulations stopping them from being higher up the table.

Some of English football’s elite sides, such as Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and European Champions Chelsea have spent less than Everton in recent years, highlighting the gross mismanagement of the club.

Therefore, Kirkbride’s latest revelation will surely leave large sections of the fanbase fuming. League finishes of 7th, 8th, 8th, 12th and 10th have not offered a substantial return for their excessive outlay, meaning fundamental changes are needed.

If Everton are to finally catch up to English football’s elite, then a total revamp of their scouting operation and recruitment process is needed, not a token gesture. Everton fans should be rightfully fuming with this latest update.

Ao Superesportes, o empresário do goleiro, João Sérgio, disse que aguarda para se reunir com a diretoria celeste após o clássico com o Atlético-MG, que acontece neste domingo, às 17h, no Mineirão. De acordo com o representante, há a expectativa de uma conversa tranquila, já que Fábio vive um bom momento no clube e sua família já está adaptada a Belo Horizonte.
