Crystal Palace take on London rivals Arsenal in an enticing Premier League clash on Monday night as both teams aim to extend their recent good runs of form.

The Eagles have lost just one of their last five top-flight fixtures under the stewardship of new manager Patrick Vieira, earning a memorable 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the process. The victory against Spurs was made even sweeter after summer signing Odsonne Edouard came off the bench to bag a brace on his debut for the south London club.

The 23-year-old Frenchman marked his arrival in English football in emphatic fashion, firing past compatriot Hugo Lloris just 28 seconds after entering the field of play before wrapping up the three points deep into injury time.

However, the former France under-21 international has come back down to reality after his dream start to life at Selhurst Park.

In his subsequent three appearances for Palace against Liverpool, Brighton and Leicester, Edouard has failed to find the back of the net or provide an assist for one of his teammates.

His lack of output has contributed to Vieira’s charges picking up just two points from a possible nine in recent weeks, and the former Nice manager may be tempted to change up his forward line against the Gunners as a result.

However, the 45-year-old must keep faith in Edouard for the trip to the Emirates Stadium on Monday night, as the striker’s underlying numbers indicate that he is still putting in some solid performances.

As per SofaScore, the former Celtic ace has produced three key passes, four shots on target and completed all three of his attempted dribbles successfully across his last three outings.

Although he is currently struggling to apply the finishing touches to Palace’s attacks, Edouard is still making a substantial contribution to the south London outfit in the final third, which suggests that he could be their game-changer against Arsenal.

Dominic Cork has vowed to make Lancashire suffer for shipping him out at the end of last season. Well, that opportunity still awaits but the 37-year-old former England allrounder warmed up nicely for battles ahead by taking four Worcestershire wickets in 11 balls on his Hampshire debut.Cork has never been short of confidence – and he certainly was not going to be put off by failing to take a wicket in his first four overs at the Rose Bowl after coming on as second change. Instead, he kept himself involved by taking a couple of catches, one in the gully and another at second slip, before bursting onto centre stage in typically dramatic fashion as the visitors were knocked over for 132.Worcestershire, back in the championship’s top flight after a season in Division Two, were going reasonably on 101 for 3 and were still capable of making a decent fist of it at 120 for 5 after opting to bat on a green-tinged pitch. But then up bobbed Cork.Making the ball swing, as he almost always has done, and nibble just a little off the seam, Cork won three lbw verdicts in the space of four deliveries – pinning Gareth Batty, Kabir Ali and Chris Whelan in front of their stumps. And it was almost three in three with Whelan surviving one shout after being rapped on the pad before succumbing next up.Cork’s fourth victim, Matt Mason, wafted optimistically outside off stump to be caught behind, and it was odds on a Cork five-fer. Surrey’s match-winners were Matthew Spriegel, whose fighting fifty led his team to a competitive total, and Chris Schofield, whose bowling precipitated Yorkshire’s sudden and sorry demise.Everything started right for Yorkshire in their chase, apart from the early dismissal of Andrew Gale. Rana Naved was sent in first wicket down as a pinch-hitter and did a fine job, bringing up the 50 in the 11th over with some exotic strokes, including a pull for six high over long-on off Andre Nel. The turning point came when Jacques Rudolph (14) was stumped off Schofield for 14. This brought in Michael Vaughan, who was not in touch. Not only did he scratch around for 32 balls to score 10 runs, but he also deprived Naved of the strike, causing the latter to lose his rhythm. This was to prove critical.When Vaughan flashed at a ball from Grant Elliott and was caught at the wicket, the match was in the balance. Surrey closed in, while Yorkshire responded in dismal fashion, losing their heads and their wickets en masse. Five wickets fell for five runs, including that of Naved for 49, perhaps unluckily adjudged caught at slip, but he had been all at sea against Schofield – as indeed were his team-mates. When Elliott took two wickets with successive deliveries, Yorkshire were 83 for 7 and virtually stone dead in a matter of minutes. A few balls later the local clouds decided the situation was too disgraceful to be allowed to continue, and opened up, driving the teams from the field.When play resumed Yorkshire’s equation was an impossible 82 more off 4.5 overs. Elliott, whose medium pace was ideally suited to such conditions, and Jade Dernbach polished off the innings to give Surrey a timely tonic. After they contrived to lose yesterday’s match by one run against Durham it was vital they secured their first win of the season.Light early-morning rain delayed the start for 45 minutes and the match was reduced to 47 overs per side. The light was poor for most of the match, the outfield was heavy, the pitch allowed some seam movement and run-scoring was never easy. Surrey enjoyed what was, in the context of the match, a very good opening partnership of 39 between Scott Newman and Michael Brown.Then Naved and Richard Pyrah, bowling superbly in tandem, swung the balance of the match for the first time. Naved yorked Brown and came close to having Mark Ramprakash lbw without scoring; however the veteran made only 5 before he slashed and was caught at the wicket. There ensued a tight struggle for runs, but the bowlers held sway until the score was 82 for 5. They were aided by some superb wicketkeeping from Simon Guy, who took two catches and a stumping.It was Spriegel who led the fightback, in company with the wicketkeeper, Gary Wilson, the Irish international. Both batted well, taking advantage as the most dangerous bowlers were rested from the attack, and added 67 with growing confidence. It took some fine fielding by Pyrah off his own bowling to run out Wilson (34), too eager to start for a run. Spriegel reached his fine fighting 50 off 82 balls, and in the last over Schofield swatted a full toss from Ajmal Shahzad for six over midwicket. At the time it looked as though it gave Surrey nothing more than an outside chance – in the end it proved more than enough.

وكان الاتحاد المصري لكرة القدم قد أعلن تعاقده مع كلاتنبرج من أجل تطوير المنظومة التحكيمية خلال الفترة المقبلة.

وتسلم كلاتنبرج مهمته يوم الثلاثاء الماضي بعد استقالة عصام عبد الفتاح من رئاسة لجنة الحكام.

وعلم “بطولات” أن الحكام طالبوا تنسيق جلسة مع كلاتنبرج للتحدث معه عن الأزمات والمشاكل التي واجهتهم خلال الفترة الماضية، سواء كانت أمور متعلقة بأزمة المستحقات أو غيرها من أمور فنية.

Craig Dawson may have lost his place in West Ham’s starting XI following the arrival of Champions League winner Kurt Zouma this summer but he has arguably been one of the most underrated players since David Moyes’ return.

The 31-year-old veteran originally joined the Irons on loan from Watford in October 2020 and soon kept four clean sheets in as many appearances for the club.

By the end of the season, the east Londoners made the move permanent for a bargain £2m.

Dawson has since featured 32 times in all competitions, in which he has won 20 of those matches and lost only six times. That is a win percentage of 62.5% and has coincided with the Hammers’ impressive rise into the Europa League.

In fact, Moyes’ men have not lost with Dawson featuring since May this year, a 1-0 defeat to Everton.

His impact at the London Stadium has been something previously noted by former Arsenal defender and BT Sport commentator Martin Keown.

“I think Dawson is a great bit of business. [James] Tarkowski was meant to be coming in for £35m and Moyes has said no, I don’t pay that sort of money. He came in as fourth choice and now he’s key,” he said to talkSPORT.

It isn’t the first time that the 6 foot 2 colossus, who earns around £42.5k-per-week, has been praised for his ability.

Irons assistant manager Stuart Pearce dubbed him an “incredible kid”  who is a “pleasure to work with” to talkSPORT (Wednesday 20 January, 8:30am), whilst former Hammers defender Anton Ferdinand has described him as a “leader” too.

Dawson may well have lost his place in Moyes’ starting XI in the league but evidently, he’s a more than reliable backup to have. His record since joining is pretty outstanding. His four starts have even earned a better rating than Angelo Ogbonna, as per WhoScored, so perhaps that is something the Scotsman should be considering – a Dawson and Zouma partnership.

Whilst the likes of Declan Rice and Michail Antonio often take the plaudits for West Ham’s fine form under Moyes, the 31-year-old beast has been an underrated unsung hero since the manager took the dugout for the second time.

وتابع: “عدم الفشل في الفترة الأولى من الدوري الإنجليزي مهم للغاية، منذ موسمين خسرنا سبع نقاط في أول خمس مباريات وآخر خمس مباريات”.

وأضاف: “نخسر دائمًا نقاطًا في هذه المرحلة من الموسم، قبل أن نعود إلى الانتصارات لفترة طويلة وتحديدًا في أكتوبر، نوفمبر وديسمبر”.
