The Lowdown: Torrid time at Palace

Tanganga, who had started the season strongly at right-back, endured a nightmare afternoon at Selhurst Park on Saturday as Tottenham were beaten 3-0 by Crystal Palace.

The defender was sent off for two yellow cards, one coming on the back of an altercation with Wilfried Zaha on the counter-attack.

He will now miss Sunday’s game with Chelsea, but he could face a further charge according to Hackett.

The Latest: No doubt

As per Football Insider, Hackett has claimed there is ‘no doubt’ that Tottenham could face an FA charge for failing to control their players in the scuffle involving Zaha and Tanganga.

Hackett said: “I’ve no doubt, like we outlined with Chelsea, that the FA will bring a charge.

“I’m sure the FA will look at this particular incident, particularly if it has been put in the post-match incident report by the FA.”

Chelsea were fined £25,000 by the FA for failing to control their players in their 1-1 draw with Liverpool prior to the international break.

The Verdict: More bad news…

Despite kicking off the Numo Espirito Santo regime with three straight wins, Spurs were brought back down to earth with a list of errors on Saturday afternoon and a potential charge from the FA will just add to their problems.

Tanganga’s poor challenge on Zaha, where it seems he pushes the winger’s face at speed, was the start of the collapse from Tottenham and they were made to pay for it as they fell to a crushing defeat.

With the problems they endured in the aftermath of the international break, Tanganga joins the long list of players out and makes Sunday’s fixture with Chelsea an extremely difficult one.

Scott Styris, the New Zealand allrounder, has broken his right thumb and is expected to be out of action for at least six weeks. Styris, who sustained a fracture during the Twenty20 match against West Indies at Eden Park on Friday, will have a pin inserted in to his thumb before undergoing surgery on Tuesday.No replacement will be added to the squad for the second Twenty20 match on Sunday in Hamilton. Styris scored 21 off 12 balls in the tied game, which eventually went West Indies’ way through the super-over Eliminator.The injury will be a setback for Styris, who retired from Tests last year to extend his career in the shorter formats of the game. He is set to miss the five ODIs against West Indies and probably the start of the one-day series against Australia in February.

Shah was speaking after he was omitted from the squad for the ongoing first Test against West Indies in Jamaica.”We all want to play Test cricket because there is pride and honour playing for your country against another nation,” Shah told . “There’s no feeling to beat it.”Shah began his England career in 2001 as an ODI specialist but has struggled to find a regular place in the side, playing 52 ODIs in that period. He had to wait another five years for his Test debut, but despite making an impression with an important 88, he has played only one more Test since.He admitted his disappointment at not making the line-up for the Jamaica Test but vowed to win his place back, with the Ashes coming up at home this summer.”The captain (Andrew Strauss) told me that it was a tough decision (to leave him out of the first Test), but that I was close and I have to keep knocking on the door,” Shah said. “I’m only 30. I want to play for England in the near future and with the Ashes around the corner, I want to play Test cricket. I’m allowed a four-week period for the IPL, then I have to be back in England. West Ham United advanced into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after they defeated Manchester United  – and one name arguably stole the show.

Just a few days ago, the Irons suffered an agonising defeat to the Red Devils in the Premier League but here, David Moyes’ side were out for redemption in what was a rare victory at Old Trafford.

There were plenty of standout performers, with the likes of Issa Diop, ‘Man of the Match’ Craig Dawson and Alphonse Areola getting plenty of credit from supporters and press on social media.

But it was another player making his Hammers debut that looked top class against some big names.

Czech Republic midfielder Alex Kral joined the east Londoners on loan from Spartak Moscow, joining his international teammates Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal at the club, and he excelled in his first-ever competitive appearance.

The 23-year-old, who is valued at €15m (£13m) by CIES Football Observatory, was quite literally all over the pitch as he looked to fill the void left behind by his colossal countryman and Declan Rice.

Kral did his defensive duties astutely as he recorded a game-high five tackles and three interceptions, as per SofaScore. He also made two clearances and won a total of eight duels.

Indeed, this massively helped in the absence of the usual first-choice duo as Soucek averages 3.4 tackles per league outing and Rice averages 2.2 interceptions per outing, via WhoScored. He effectively did the job of both next to club captain Mark Noble, who undoubtedly made his job easier.

Further up the pitch, the 25-cap international provided one key pass, one successful dribble and a total of 47 touches, as per SofaScore.

“Loaning Alex Král with an option to buy at £12m looks like more smart business from West Ham,” claimed BBC Sport contributor Premier League Panel. “Superb defensive work vs Man Utd, as he constantly tracked runners in between the lines & made vital interventions (8 tackles/interceptions). Quality option to rotate with Rice & Soucek.”

And as football.london’s Tom Clark wrote in his post-match ratings, Kral ‘showed a willingness to get forward and broke into the Manchester United box on a number of occasions.’

Both reviews only reinforce the fact that Kral was an industrious presence at either end of the pitch on Wednesday night.

It was certainly an impressive debut from Kral and he has now surely given Moyes plenty to think about heading into their upcoming fixtures across the Premier League and Europa League.
