Familiares, amigos, ex-companheiros e torcedores se despediram do ex-jogador Leonardo nesta quarta-feira. O copo do ídolo do Sport, que faleceu na última terça-feira, foi velado na sede do Leão, na Ilha do Retiro. Centenas de pessoas foram prestar as últimas homenagens ao ex-atacante. A família achou melhor que o enterro fosse feito em Picos, no Piauí, cidade natal do ex-atleta. O caixão seguiu para o local no início da tarde.

Entre os ex-companheiros de Sport que foram ao velório estavam Chiquinho, Nildo, Carlinhos Bala, Dário, Adriano, Sandro, Albérico, Russo, entre outros. Além deles, também compareceram o ex-atacante do Náutico, Kuki, o ex-volante do Santa Cruz, Zé do Carmo.

O velório foi marcado por muita emoção e homenagens ao ídolo do Leão. Os presentes entoaram músicas do Sport e o coro “Ah! É Leonardo”, grito que o ex-jogador ouviu muito em sua vitoriosa passagem pelo clube.

O ex-atacante, que ainda teve passagens por clubes como Vasco, Corinthians, Palmeiras e Central-PE, estava há cerca de um mês internado devido a complicações de um quadro de neurocisticercose, doença provocada pelo consumo de carne de porco mal preparada. A sua morte foi confirmada às 15h15 desta terça-feira.

Nascido em Picos (PI), Leonardo foi revelado no Sport em 1992. Passados três anos, o então atacante desembarcou no Vasco cercado de expectativas, ao lado do promissor Juninho, mas sua passagem durou seis meses.

Em 1996, Leonardo disputou a Copa Libertadores pelo Corinthians, onde foi artilheiro da equipe, com cinco gols. Em seguida, vestiu a camisa do Palmeiras, onde não se firmou.

No ano de 1997, voltou à Ilha do Retiro, onde ficou por quatro anos, e colecionou sete títulos pernambucanos e duas Copas do Nordeste. Em seguida, passou por 14 clubes, como Santa Cruz e Central-PE, até encerrar sua carreira no Sete de Setembro-PE. Ele foi o terceiro maior artilheiro do Sport, com 136 gols. Ele também é o jogador que mais ganhou título pelo Leão. Foram nove no total (sete estaduais e duas Copas do Nordeste).

Marcel Brands must secure a last-ditch loan deal for Everton midfielder Beni Baningime to join Wayne Rooney’s Derby County on Deadline Day.

According to Football Insider, Rooney has contacted club figures at Goodison Park to sound out the 22-year-old’s availability in late efforts to bolster the core of his Rams side.

Derby are staring down the barrel of a full-blown relegation fight this season, with even a run of three-straight wins only moving the Pride Park outfit five points clear of the Championship drop zone, where 22nd-placed Rotherham United hold two games in hand.

Carlo Ancelotti is said to be happy to sanction a deal for Baningime to see out the rest of the season away from Merseyside, following several enquiries from clubs showing an interest in the Toffees product during the winter transfer window.

Derby are on pole for his signature, as Rooney looks to replace Millwall-bound George Evans and Swansea City-bound Morgan Whittaker.

Baningime is yet to play a second of senior football this season with Ancelotti opting to omit the £1m-rated talent from each of his matchday squads across all competitions, but has started all 13 of Everton’s Premier League 2 fixtures under David Unsworth this term.

Unsworth has previously described Baningime as a player in the mould of former and current Chelsea enforcers Claude Makelele and N’Golo Kante, but has failed to see the £8,000-per-week prospect build on his 12 career first-team outings for the Blues.

Should Everton let Baningime join Derby?

Everton’s Director of Football Brands should be leaping at the chance to reach an agreement for Baningime to see out the remainder of the season at Derby, as Ancelotti clearly does not consider the 22-year-old to be at a high enough standard for the Toffees first-team.

It has been a long time since the midfielder featured in the senior fold at Goodison Park, with his last outing coming back in April 2018, despite Unsworth lauding the “class act” and suggesting he “shouldn’t be playing at this level” following an U23s win in September 2019.

Derby would represent a great opportunity for Baningime to kick start his career with Rooney being an admirer of his potential, having played alongside the DR Congo-born enforcer during the England icon’s second spell with Everton.

Rooney is also showing that he is not afraid to place his trust in young players now that he has taken the step into the management, with 19-year-old talent Jason Knight playing the full 90 minutes in each of his four games in charge and even captaining the Rams in three of those matches.

Kamil Jozwiak, 22, also opened all four of those Championship fixtures, while 20-year-old Max Bird played the last 135 minutes of the Rams’ second-tier encounters after a bit-part campaign.

Baningime needs that level of trust placed in him in a senior setting for his development, otherwise the youngster’s progress will only continue to stagnate. With his Everton contract also up in the summer of 2022, the Toffees need him playing if they are to ever see him as a part of their future, and Derby could be the dream destination for all involved.

O diretor executivo do Flamengo, Rodrigo Caetano, apontou que uma vitória por dois ou mais gols sobre o Confiança, nesta quarta-feira, é crucial para amenizar a maratona da equipe. Many fans of Wolverhampton Wanderers have been reacting to a post on Twitter in which Tim Spiers relayed an article of his regarding Wolves’ defensive issues.

In his article for The Athletic, Spiers revealed that, out of the 33 Premier League goals Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have conceded so far this season, 15 have come from crosses or set-pieces – highlighting the club’s ‘inability to defend’ a ball from a wide position.

Spiers continued in his piece by highlighting each of the 15 goals in question, the latest of which came during the club’s recent 1-1 stalemate with Newcastle United. One angry supporter described the defensive problem as “pathetic”.

After the journalist relayed his report on Twitter, fans of Wolves flocked to have their say on the matter, with many appearing to blame the statistic on the fact that Nuno often fields midfielders in the heart of his defence – for instance, Leander Dendoncker has played the last four matches at centre-back.
