Two Champions League finals. One defeat, one victory and no Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

For the Liverpool midfielder the last year of his career has been a wretched one. Just a month before the 2017/18 final, he suffered a horrendous knee injury.

The former Arsenal man ruptured his cruciate ligament and would consequently miss not only Liverpool’s biggest game on the European stage since 2007, but also the World Cup.

This was an all too familiar feeling for the man branded ‘The Ox’. He’s no stranger when it comes to injury, but after finding himself in the form of his life, this was a bitter blow.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is one of football’s nice guys. His vibrant personality has come across numerous times in videos on social channels but even for a player with such a jovial attitude, this would have been hard to take.

At the age of 25, he’s now no longer one of the least experienced members of the team. For all the world it feels like he still is.

Like Theo Walcott, Liverpool’s new number 15 is one of those players you feel will never age.

Though, the reality is that however old you think a footballer is, time is always thin on the ground. Coming through the ranks at Southampton, Oxlade-Chamberlain was one of the most highly rated teenagers around.

A move to Arsenal seemed a natural progression after Walcott’s switch.

But after being restricted to game time and then ultimately being deployed as a wing-back, he moved to Anfield for a fee of £35m.

In Merseyside, he discovered his best form. Initially Jurgen Klopp fielded him in a wider position, however, he was eventually moved more central.

Playing in the middle of the park is a role that’s always best suited the Portsmouth-born man.

One of his finest performances in an Arsenal shirt came from that area of the pitch, scoring twice against Crystal Palace in February 2014.

That feels like a lifetime ago now, especially considering what’s happened in his career since.

After the Gunners won the FA Cup in 2017, he claimed on BT Sport (27/05/17) following the game: “I’ve always wanted to be Steven Gerrard.”

So the way things have gone after that is fitting. Having signed for Liverpool, his most memorable moment since arriving is one Gerrard will have been proud of.

Cast your mind back to April 4 2018 and you’ll see Oxlade-Chamberlain crashing home a long range effort against Manchester City in a phenomenal win for the Reds in Europe.

Coincidentally that goal came from a central role, an area he scored four times from, whilst also claiming seven assists during his first season on Merseyside.

Comparing that to when he played out wide for Klopp’s side, he only contributed one goal.

Going into next season, a fit and firing Oxlade-Chamberlain can be crucial for the Reds. However, he may have to dislodge Naby Keita in the process.

It’s hard to judge whether the two could play in the same team. Both are energetic midfielders but it may be too much to consider lining them up together.

Keita struggled to adjust to life in the Premier League after first arriving on English soil. His performances were average and after waiting such a long time to actually see him in action, it wasn’t particularly worth it.

But the Guinea international has turned things around. In the month of April he played a starring role, helping himself to three goals.

After signing for £48m Liverpool fans were finally seeing a glimpse of why they paid so much money for his services.

Yet, in Oxlade-Chamberlain they may just have a more complete player.

Klopp’s midfield is one of the few issues he still has to iron out going into next term. If he can fix it, they may well find themselves with the Premier League title in their hands for the first time.

Not since 1989/90 have they won the league, but their returning midfield man could have a vital say in ending that.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s performance against City in the Champions League last year saw him play in a more advanced role, almost playing as a number ten.

Slightly behind him were the reliable figures of Jordan Henderson and James Milner. Therefore, could pushing the 25-year-old further on be an indication of how to play Keita alongside him? Arguably so.

Even against the best opposition Klopp isn’t scared to go attacking and this could work in their favour.

If he wanted to, the German could choose to field the ex-Gunner ahead of Keita and Henderson, but you also have Fabinho to add to the equation. That’s not forgetting semi-final hero Gini Wijnaldum too.

For an area that is still arguably a weakness, the return of Oxlade-Chamberlain puts that to bed.

As we saw in 2018, he was a game changer for Liverpool, adding pace to a central position that’s also been so prominent in wide areas.

If the Reds can create a similar formula during the 2019/20 campaign, they’ll be even more frightening.

Liverpool are emerging as one of, if not the most well run football clubs from a business perspective.

They always seem to sell their fringe players who they have little intention of using for significant fees, whilst they are also shrewd operators when buying players themselves.

The Reds and their transfer guru Michael Edwards managed to recoup £27m for Christian Benteke, £26m for the unwanted Mamadou Sakho, £19m for bench warmer Dominic Solanke, £20m for Danny Ings and £15m for Jordon Ibe, all of whom wouldn’t improve Liverpool right now.

Edwards and Jurgen Klopp have also overseen bargain arrivals such as Mohamed Salah for a £34m fee, whilst Andy Robertson – arguably one of the world’s best left-backs right now – cost just an initial £8m from Hull; Kevin Stewart went the other way for a similar fee, so the Scotsman barely cost anything.

The Champions League winners have recently been linked with an €80m (£71.23m) move for Lille forward Nicolas Pepe, and whilst the Reds aren’t short of cash, that is a lot of money to pay for a player who would assumingly be to strengthen their squad and not a guaranteed starter.

So, how could Liverpool get close to that fee without completely breaking the bank?

Whilst Benteke, Sakho, Ings, Solanke and Ibe are old news, Liverpool have a quartet of players who could be moved on for a huge total combined.

Harry Wilson, Simon Mignolet, Nathaniel Clyne and Marko Grujic are just a few names who are very much in the shop window for Liverpool this summer.

The former, a 21-year-old Welsh international, hit 18 goals whilst on loan with Derby last term and has attracted the interest of a number of sides – a £21m deal has been mentioned with RB Leipzig, Getafe, Valencia, Leicester and others interested.

Elsewhere, the Merseysiders are keen to move on Mignolet and Clyne, who are both surplus to requirements – £15m price tags have been slapped on each of them, with a very real chance of that figure being met for two experienced internationals.

Napoli are said to be interested in Clyne, whilst Bournemouth want £15m-rated Mignolet.

Additionally, Serbian midfielder Grujic made a big impression on loan with Hertha Berlin last term – their manager Pal Dardai said the 23-year-old was “by far the best midfielder I’ve seen in my time at the club” – and Liverpool believe they could get in excess of £25m for the midfielder.

All four players have had admiring glances from afar, so there’s a fantastic chance of Edwards working his magic once again.

In total, if all of those players are sold Liverpool could land at least £76m based on the fees mentioned in the linked reports, which would be more than enough to pay for Pepe.

وكان رجب بكار قد أتم انتقاله لصفوف نادي سيراميكا كليوباترا بدايٍة من الموسم القادم.

وتابع: “دونجا مستمر في بيراميدز ولن يرحل ونحن نزيد من قوة الفريق”.

وأكمل: “كان هناك حديث على صفقة تبادلية بين الأهلي وبيراميدز بالاستغناء عن محمد فاروق وضم أحمد الشيخ ولكن لم تتم، ليس مهم أن أقول أسبابها، والمفاوضات لم تنتهي، فاروق لاعب مهم واساسي ونحتاجه والوضع بالنسبة لنا مطمئن”.

وأردف: “علاقتنا جيدة جدًا بالأهلي والزمالك وعندما نتحدث عن لاعب نتحدث بشكل مباشر مع ناديه، وتعاقدنا مع لاعبين من القطبين كان عقده منتهي مع أنديتهم، وأيضًا لم نتفاوض مع فرجاني ساسي “.

واستطرد مدير بيراميدز: “عمر ما كان الهدف أن نتعاقد مع لاعب يرغب الأهلي في ضمه ولكن من يمثل إضافة لنا، ولك نفكر في أي وقت في التعاقد مع فايلر أو كارتيرون”.

وعن التفاوض مع مصطفى محمد مهاجم الزمالك، أوضح: “مصطفى بالنسبة لنا ولمصر كلها هو المهاجم رقم واحد إذا كان متاحًا لنا سنتمنى تواجده ولم نتحدث مع الزمالك رسميًا والواضح أنه لن يحدث شيئًا”.

عاد قائد وجناح الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بنادي برشلونة، ليونيل ميسي، للمشاركة بشكل طبيعي في التدريبات الجماعية صباح اليوم، الأحد، قبل ساعات من مباراة نهائي كأس السوبر الإسباني أمام أتلتيك بلباو.

وكان ميسي يعاني من إصابة في القدم، حرمته من المشاركة في مباراة نصف النهائي أمام ريال سوسيداد والتواجد في التدريبات الجماعية في الأيام الماضية.

هناك حالة من التفاؤل في صفوف برشلونة لمشاركة ميسي أمام أتلتيك بلباو، ولكن القرار النهائي يرجع للمدرب كومان الذي سيحدد حالة الأرجنتيني مع الجهاز الطبي للفريق الأول.

وبحسب شبكة “كواترو” الإسبانية، تؤكد أن ميسي قد تعافى تمامًا من إصابته وسيشارك أساسيًا اليوم في النهائي على ملعب “لا كارتوخا” في “إشبيلية”، لمحاولة مساعدة برشلونة على الفوز باللقب.

Crystal Palace’s striking woes are well documented and well in need of addressing this summer, with the departure of loanee Michy Batshuayi and the poor form of all other options at the Eagles’ disposal meaning that the cash must be splashed if the club are to avoid another relegation battle.

Belgian Batshuayi proved a solid signing for the SE25 outfit after joining on a temporary basis in January, scoring six goals in 921 minutes across all competitions last season, although it seems unlikely that he will be allowed to return next term given Chelsea’s transfer ban troubles.

Signing a top goalscorer remains a priority for Roy Hodgson and Co unless one of their underperforming hitmen can step up in style in 2019/20 and some Palace fans are hoping that they may yet see Christian Benteke regain his impressive 2016/17 form.

During Romain Saiss’ last competitive start for Wolves in April, he looked like a player who couldn’t live with the pace of the Premier League.

Against a determined Southampton team who caused all sorts of problems through Nathan Redmond, the Moroccan struggled.

For the Saints’ first goal he was caught out at the near post by the winger and then left a gap between him and Willy Boly for Saints’ second of the afternoon.

The Midlands outfit would go on to lose 3-1 and Saiss wouldn’t play again for the rest of the season.

It was an understandable decision given his performance on that day.

However, the 29-year-old has since bounced back and played a leading role in Morocco’s first game at the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday night.

Their opposition may only have been Namibia but it still took them 89 minutes to break them down.

Key to their success was Saiss, who playing as a centre half restricted them to just three shots all game as he kept a clean sheet alongside former Juventus man Medhi Benatia.

It was a display that arguably showed he deserves another chance next season.

Wolves have been linked with Mouctar Diakhaby and Kalvin Phillips this summer, two players who could take up his role in the side if they joined given they can play in defence and midfield.

Yet this was an impressive showing that should have sent a strong message to Nuno Santo.

Saiss’ passing was incredibly accurate but he was also colossal in defence, winning five aerial duels and also making four clearances.

He was incredibly disciplined, something that will no doubt please Nuno who witnessed some sloppy errors from the defender in that game at St Mary’s over two months ago.

In completing two tackles and making a further two interceptions, he helped to contain what was a lively right-hand side for Namibia as Petrus Shitembi, their winger on that flank, completed five dribbles.

On only one occasion was the 6 ft 3 Wolves man dribbled past in the game, but his overall contribution to the side meant that didn’t matter.

If Wolves are searching for greater depth whilst the transfer market is open, the sensible thing to do might be to monitor Saiss before making an investment in a potential replacement.

According to Goal.com, Marco Silva wants Kurt Zouma to return to Goodison Park on a permanent basis this transfer window following his loan spell last campaign. Chelsea have reportedly set a price of around £30m for the former Saint-Etienne centre-back.

Kiersey joins Walsall

It was confirmed on Monday that Everton youngster Jack Kiersey will join Walsall on a short-term basis. Saddlers boss Darrell Clarke said, “Jack is someone I’ve monitored for a few years. It’s for the lad to prove himself over a short period and we’ll look to extend his contract if he produces the goods.”
