Tottenham eyeing Wilson swoop, fans react

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Tottenham fans have been reacting to the latest transfer news, as the Lilywhites are reportedly set to join the race for Callum Wilson.

After Liam Rosenior called Wilson a “perfect fit” for Tottenham, a report from The Daily Mirrorhas claimed the North Londoners could soon make a move for the red-hot Bournemouth striker.

Spurs will be without Harry Kane until at least March after he suffered an ankle injury against Manchester United, and Son Heung-min is of course on international duty for the Asian Cup.

That leaves Fernando Llorente as Mauricio Pochettino’s only senior option up front, and the Spanish international himself has been linkedwith a move away from the club.

Wilson meanwhile has scored ten times and added five assists in all competitions this season, and his pace, versatility and attitude seems tailor made for Pochettino.

Introducing: Gyasi Zardes as the man Leeds need if they are in the Premier League next season

Should things carry on as they went in the first part of the season, Leeds United will certainly be in the promotion picture come towards the end of the campaign.

Marcelo Bielsa has worked wonders at Elland Road since arriving in the summer – given the fact that he has a rather small squad to work with.

The Argentine managed to offload a number of players in the summer and has been keen to see a few more leave this winter as well.

Not only has he had a reduced squad, but Bielsa has also managed to keep his Leeds side at the summit, or within touching distance, of the Championship despite the number of injuries and suspensions they have had.

However, should they win promotion to next year’s Premier League, they will need to spend big and bring some new talent to Elland Road.

Gysai Zardes could be an excellent addition for the Whites to consider in the summer, should he still be available.

The 27-year-old has been tearing the MLS apart with his performances for Columbus Crew over the past 12 months.

The United States of America international hit an impressive 20 goals in his 36 appearances making him an extremely attractive option for a number of clubs.

Leeds have been linked with a move for him recently, via TeamTALK, however, a swoop for him would likely be in the summer.

Zardes would give Bielsa an incredible amount of depth in his attacking ranks, as he would be able to play anywhere across the frontline, including as a main striker.

Although Kemar Roofe has been performing well in the Championship, with Patrick Bamford looking to make an impact as well, adding the 27-year-old would only bolster their attack further.

However, with six months still to go before the summer, they could miss out on Zardes, given how much quality he has.

Leeds fans – thoughts?

Leeds fans fear further punishment after Jansson red card

[ad_pod ]

Many Leeds fans have been reacting to their club’s defeat to Stoke City, and they’re fearing the worst over the controversy surrounding Pontus Jansson.

Leeds fell to a 2-1 defeat at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday, as goals from Sam Clucas and Joe Allen were enough to give the home side all three points, in spite of Ezgjan Alioski’s consolation strike.

It is a huge setback for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, as they are now just one point clear of Norwich, who beat Birmingham 3-1 on Friday night.

Pl>ymaker FC’s Theo Ogden found two rebelious Leeds fans in the home end at Loftus Road in QPR’s 2-1 FA Cup win. Find out what happened next in the video below…

They could also now be without Pontus Jansson for a second spell this season, after the powerful centre-back protested in dramatic fashion upon receiving a red card.

The 27 year-old, who is an immensely popular figure at Elland Road and has been fabulous all season, was handed a very soft second yellow card after a coming together with Benik Afobe.

He then had some form of disagreement with a steward by the tunnel, according to Phil Hay.

The colossal Swedish international received a one-match suspension earlier this season for his comments on referee Jeremy Simpson, and fans are fearing the worst over another potential ban.

Crystal Palace fans laud Max Meyer for his performance against Tottenham

[ad_pod ]

Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to laud Max Meyer, after the midfielder put in a stunning performance against Tottenham Hotspur in their FA Cup fourth round tie on Sunday when the hosts ran out 2-0 winners to advance.

The Germany international, who is still struggling for consistent starts having arrived on a free transfer in the summer, excelled in a central midfield role against Spurs alongside Cheikhou Kouyate and Jeffrey Schlupp, as the south London outfit beat their neighbours from the capital relatively comfortably.

Meyer kept things nice and tidy whilst Kouyate did the dirty work defensively, and Schlupp ventured forward on frequent occasions.

Which player with “no potential” has just been named Crystal Palace’s worst ever January signing? Find out in the video below…

The 23-year-old has featured all over the place under Roy Hodgson so far this season, having been deployed on the left of midfield, in an attacking midfield role as well as a central midfield role, but if his showing against Mauricio Pochettino’s side is anything to go by, the latter is his best position.

Many Eagles supporters would agree with that statement if their reactions on Twitter are anything to go by…

Arsenal fans fume at transfer update

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal will have a transfer budget of £45million in the summer, per The Daily Mail.

Manager Unai Emery made just one signing in the January transfer window, bringing in Denis Suarez on loan from Barcelona.

The Gunners have struggled in recent weeks and sit sixth in the Premier League, three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and 15 behind leaders Liverpool.

They have not won away from home in the Premier League since November, when they defeated Bournemouth 2-1.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

Since then, they have drawn with Manchester United at Old Trafford, Brighton & Hove Albion at the AMEX Stadium and lost at Southampton, Liverpool, West Ham United and Manchester City.

But it appears that they will not have the budget needed to revitalise the squad, with Emery not set to be given a war chest in the summer transfer window if The Daily Mail is to be believeed.

And several Arsenal fans on Twitter are fuming at the report, having witnessed years of underinvestment in the club.

The Chalkboard: Ross needs to deploy O’Nien in Sunderland midfield vs Accrington

[ad_pod ]

Despite his natural position throughout his career being central midfield, Luke O’Nien has often been used as something of a utility player by Jack Ross following his summer move to Sunderland, but that needs to change for the visit of Accrington Stanley to the Stadium of Light on Friday night.

On the chalkboard

The Black Cats missed the chance to really put the pressure on second-placed Barnsley in League One when they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Blackpool on Tuesday, and O’Nien was brought back into the starting XI at right-back for the clash against the Seasiders.

Most of the 24-year-old’s appearances for the Wearside outfit this term have come in that position, although his return to the side was slightly surprising given Adam Matthews had been preferred to him for the win against AFC Wimbledon and draw with Oxford United previously.

Given Ross has Matthews available and midfielders such as captain George Honeyman and Lynden Gooch are hardly in good form right now, Friday is the time to change things up in order to get a much-needed three points.

O’Nien back in midfield

Despite doing well enough in the position, the 24-year-old doesn’t really have the attributes needed to play the role of an attacking full-back, and he would be much better suited in the centre of the pitch.

The indoor football skills in the video below have to be seen to be believed…

Sunderland are in dire need of more creativity and goals right now given they are struggling to score more than once in a game and in general seem to be conceding – as they did against Blackpool and Oxford – and O’Nien could certainly help deliver seeing as he has four goals and two assists in 21 League One outings for them.

With Grant Leadbitter a sure-fire starter a place for him in midfield could depend on Ross changing formation or dropping one of skipper Honeyman or Gooch – none of which should be out of the question in the bid to win promotion.

Watford destined to lose Abdoulaye Doucoure soon

Under the guidance of Javi Garcia, many players have been urged to tap into their utmost potential at Watford.

Still, the player to have thrived the most is Abdoulaye Doucoure, who’s been a driving force in their midfield and looking like a more complete player with every passing game. Indeed, Doucoure’s good work has been attracting attention from all around with the likes of PSG linked (as per the Evening Standard) so he’s certainly enjoying life in Hertfordshire.

And, considering his work-rate, who wouldn’t a player like him?

The French midfielder’s prominently gained the attention of European heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain in recent months. Even his team-mate Adrian Mariappa acknowledges the attention to be a good thing (via Evening Standard). While the Hornets did a mighty job in keeping him in January, doing the same come June will be extremely difficult.

Doucoure’s fantastic hard-working ability is reflected in his impressive stats for Watford. He’s scored three goals and assisted five from central midfield, whilst averaging more than 50 passes per game (stats via Transfermarkt) in Garcia’s fluid system. What is his biggest strength is helping his side defensively, as the towering midfielder is relentless when chasing the opponent.

He boasts a 51% tackling success while having made 167 ball recoveries for Watford so far this season. A man of many talents, Doucoure’s physical ability makes him a hard man to stop in midfield and his impressive burst of pace offers Watford unique attacking threat.

Javi Garcia might be reaping the rewards of the French midfielder’s solid work this season, but his destiny surely awaits at the end of it.

Arsenal: Fans react strangely after moving van is ‘spotted outside Mikel Arteta’s house in Didsbury

Arsenal fans were offering strange reactions after a moving van was supposedly spotted outside Mikel Arteta’s house up north.

In an image posted by @Raffnewaccount, a moving van was spotted loading boxes outside the soon-to-be-former Manchester City assistant manager’s house. Indeed, according to the Guardian too, an agreement is reportedly close.

A move to take over the head coach role at the Emirates Stadium looks to be quite close after it was revealed the north London club had cancelled their pre-match press conference today.

The press conference will now be held tomorrow with Arteta likely to be present at the event.

It has also been revealed by the Evening Standard that the former Everton man will not be in the dugout for the game against his former side.

Arsenal go into the game at the weekend looking for just their second win in their last 13 games across all competitions (via WhoScored).

The picture of the moving van supposedly being outside the Spaniard’s house prompted strange reactions from fans as they took to Twitter to react.

Here is a selection of tweets from the north London faithful:

Arsenal fans, what are your thoughts on the alleged pictures outside Arteta’s house? Let us know!

Leeds fans split on Mateusz Klich

Leeds United fans have been discussing Mateusz Klich the day after their 1-1 draw with Preston North End.

Understandably, the fanbase weren’t in the best of moods after failing to win for the third match in a row, but you have to feel that the criticism of Klich is rather reactionary.

The Pole has started every single league game for the Elland Road outfit since Marcelo Bielsa’s appointment, and throughout that time he’s been one of the best players in the squad, hitting double figures for goals last season.

Despite his efforts, some fans still believe that he’s been something of a weak link within the squad this season.

Fortunately, there were a few members of the fanbase with a little more sense as they stated that the fans who were criticising Klich were wrong to do so.

Others took a much more neutral approach as they conceded that Klich hasn’t been at the races as of late, but they excused that due to injuries to both Adam Forshaw and Pablo Hernandez affecting his game.

In other news, our writers have been pondering whether or not one striker would be a good signing for Leeds.

Sunderland’s interest in Antoine Semenyo the wrong move to make

Phil Parkinson revealed in his post-match press conference on Sunday that Sunderland are monitoring Bristol City forward Antoine Semenyo, as reported by the Sunderland Echo.

What’s the latest?

The Black Cats’ need for new additions is quite apparent despite their victory over Doncaster, and Parkinson suggested Semenyo is a player that has been lined up for a while.

At 19-years-old the deal is likely to be a loan move, as he signed a four-year contract with Bristol City last summer and is therefore highly-rated by the club, with Transfermarkt currently valuing him at £450,000.

However, Stewart Donald has previously stated that he is prepared to spend money, and according to The Sun on Sunday [29/12, p.55], Parkinson will be given money to spend on three to four signings.

Not the player Sunderland need

The last few weeks have proved that reinforcements are essential if Parkinson is going to be a success in the north-east, as without new players to freshen things up it is difficult to envisage Sunderland moving up the table.

While their recent win is a confidence boost and the defence seems to be back on track with three goals conceded in four games, there are still big concerns, primarily up-front and in the middle of the pitch.

Calling all Premier League experts: Who do these unique statistics belong to? Find out below….

Sunderland’s strikers have just five league goals between them, and though Charlie Wyke has made a good impact on his injury return, it seems that Will Grigg and Marc McNulty just don’t fit Parkinson’s style.

There could be the similar problem if Semenyo joined the club. He would bring much-needed pace and energy to the flanks but he has just five starts for Bristol City and 19 for Newport in his career, so even if he does provide the ability there is concern over whether he could benefit the team on a consistent basis.

After all, he only found the net six times in over 30 games for the Welsh outfit last season.

Also, his natural position is left-wing, where Lynden Gooch has operated from effectively in recent games, scoring a brilliant goal last time out to help his side to all three points.

Semenyo would provide Parkinson with another option but since a striker and centre-midfielder should be the priority, the Bristol City man may not be the right player to bring in at this time.

If they landed the winger instead, it would highlight a considerable flaw in Parkinson’s management.

Parkinson spoke of the need for a strong squad spirit after the Doncaster win so that will likely be key to determining which players he brings in next month.
