Caglar Soyuncu is a serious, serious coup for Leicester City

Leicester fans will have their fingers crossed that Harry Maguire remains at the club this summer.

With Jose Mourinho eager to bolster his defence, Maguire has been pursued by Manchester United following his excellent performances in the World Cup with England. United are desperate to land the 25-year-old but baulked at the price tag set by the Foxes – Leicester want a world-record fee according to reports. However, with Claude Puel set to sign two new centre-backs, the move may be nearing completion with Maguire reportedly keen to move to Old Trafford.

The Frenchman has targeted Dinamo Zagreb defender, Filip Benkovic, and the two clubs are reportedly in advanced discussions with the Croatia international not travelling for Zagreb’s Champions League qualifier. The Foxes have also targeted Freiburg prospect – Caglar Soyuncu. According to HITC Sport, Leicester have agreed on a fee for the youngster, and he will travel to England for a medical. Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, landing the Turkish defender would be a serious coup.

Indeed, Sky Sports suggest the deal is imminent, which is great news for the former Premier League champions.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame in the Bundesliga after plying his trade in the Turkish second division just two years ago. He made 26 appearances for Freiburg and caught the eye of pundits following some impressive showings. Comfortable using either foot, Soyuncu is a ball-playing centre-back who would undoubtedly plug the gap left by Maguire.

The Turkey international is not the finished article but has the potential to become a huge star in the Premier League. If he can adapt quickly to life in England, Leicester fans will have a new defender to worship.

Newcastle fans rage at Yedlin injury update

Newcastle’s failures in the transfer market have once again been highlighted, as loads of fans are reacting to DeAndre Yedlin’s injury against Tottenham.

Yedlin had an absolute nightmare on Saturday, as the American full back struggled to cope with Dele Alli’s movement all game, and rounded his day off with a very worrying injury.

The 25 year-old, who spent a year on loan at Sunderland before joining the Magpies, has been improving slowly but surely under the guidance of Rafael Benitez, but this could be a huge setback.

He extended and twisted his knee as he bombed down the wing in the closing stages of the 2-1 defeat, and he reportedly left the stadium on crutches.

Benitez is now down to bare bones just one game into the season, and fans are furious that they didn’t add more depth in the transfer market.

Mike Ashley did eventually pull the trigger on a couple of late signings in Salomon Rondon and Federico Fernandez, but there is no depth in the squad whatsoever, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Arsenal fans divided over Unai Emery’s selection of Petr Cech

Arsenal suffered a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of reigning champions Manchester City in their first match of the new Premier League season.

The loss will not be how new Arsenal boss Unai Emery will have dreamed of kicking off his reign in North London.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”255898″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch Arsenal’s opening fixtures for the 201819 Premier League season”]

Despite showing flashes of attacking promise, things could have been much worse for the Gunners had veteran shot-stopper Petr Cech not been able to make smart stops from Sergio Aguero, Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte.

For all of the Arsenal No. 1’s good work with his hands though, the 36-year-old looked suspect with the ball at his feet. On one occasion, when under some pressure from a pressing City front line, Cech almost swept a misplaced pass into the back of his own net.

Emery is clearly trying to implement a new style of play at the Emirates Stadium, which relies upon the ball being played out from the back. This doesn’t appear to be Cech’s forte, and with the club having spent big on Bernd Leno this summer, many fans are crying out for the new man to be installed as the first choice option between the sticks. However, Cech does have his defenders amongst the Arsenal faithful.

Gooners took to Twitter after the match to discuss the goalkeeping selection dilemma being faced by the new manager…

Leeds fans react to Bielsa’s comments on Jamie Shackleton

Leeds United saw their winning run under Marcelo Bielsa grind to a halt on Tuesday evening after being held to a 2-2 draw with Swansea City.

The Peacocks endured a tough match in South Wales, rallying from behind to snatch a point after being forced to reshuffle their defensive pack following a late injury to captain Liam Cooper.

Cooper’s absence saw Luke Ayling moved across the defence into the middle and resulted in Jamie Shackleton being utilised down the right side, where he struggled to cope with Swansea’s attacks during the second half.

Bielsa himself identified that issue and, while he praised Shackleton’s attacking performance, he suggested that the teenager needs to work on the defensive side of the game – earning a reaction from a number of Leeds supporters, many of whom were impressed by the 18-year-old.

Sale of Moussa Dembele would give Rangers a huge boost in pursuit of Celtic

Celtic have enjoyed unrivalled supremacy in Scottish football in recent years with 7 straight SPFL titles, but the appointment of Steven Gerrard at Ibrox and the arrival of 12 new players has created a new dynamic in Glasgow.

Indeed, Rangers’ exile from the title race appears to be drawing to a close with Gerrard’s appointment. Naturally, there is still a long way to go before the Gers can genuinely claim to be on Celtic’s level, but they have taken a significant step in the right direction this summer.

Meanwhile Celtic have endured a disappointing opening to the campaign as they were dumped out of the Champions League by AEK Athens in the third qualifying round and they suffered an early season setback in their title defence by losing 1-0 away at Hearts.

All of the aforementioned factors have served to boost the optimism of their Old Firm rivals, and a recent transfer report concerning the future of Moussa Dembele suggests an early season twist could be on the horizon.

Accoring to L’Equipe, Lyon have held talks with Celtic over the transfer of Dembele as they search for a talented attacker to replace Mariano Diaz who has emerged as a prime target for Sevilla.

The report claims that Celtic would have been willing to sell Dembele for a fee in the region of 15-20 million euros (£13.6-18.1 million) just two weeks ago, but it’s unclear if that stance has changed in light of the Hoops’ elimination from the Champions League.

And Brendan Rodgers admitted earlier today that reports from France are based on fact rather than speculation with Lyon showing a “big interest” in signing their crown jewel, as per BBC.

Despite the fact Celtic have managed to secure Odsonne Edouard on a permanent deal and have Leigh Griffiths available at centre-forward, the decision to sell Dembele would be an incredibly foolish one for the club to make before the deadline.

Not only would it suggest that Celtic are a selling club, but it would remove a layer of quality from their attack which is so pivotal to their success, further enhancing the growing feeling of optimism at Ibrox.

The importance of keeping Dembele in what has been a mildly turbulent few weeks at Celtic Park simply cannot be underestimated, so Celtic should snub any further interest shown by Lyon in the final days of the transfer window unless they have a quality replacement lined up to replace him.

Tottenham fans loved Son’s humble message for them after Asian Games success

As you’re probably aware, Heung-Min Son no longer has the cloud of having to do two years of military service hanging over him after he successfully won the Asian Games Men’s Football tournament with his country. After winning the gold, he had a very special thank you message for the Tottenham fans and the supporters have been showing him their appreciation.

For Son, every international competition he competed in had added pressure. If he failed to win a gold medal with his country he would have had to complete two years of mandatory military service for the South Korean army. The service would have to have been started before his 28th birthday and the career of a professional footballer is already very short before you take out two years of it.

The fact that the ever-smiley South Korean has managed to win the Asian Games will mean that he can see out the remainder of his five-year deal with Tottenham and help the Lilywhites continue to take steps towards winning some silverware. It was never ideal to start the season without Son in the squad and there’s an argument to say he could have made the difference against Watford, but overall, the fact he’s not free from doing time with the army is huge for the fans and they’ll be as delighted as the player.

You can read the Lilywhites’ responses to Son’s message here:

The fans are delighted for Son and will be keen to see him come back firing from his club like he has been for his country.

Rangers fans react to final summer signing

Loads of Rangers fans have been giving their verdict on the capture of Eros Grezda, and they’re absolutely delighted with their final signing.

Steven Gerrard and Rangers were incredibly busy this summer, and they capped it off on Friday with two deadline deals.

Joe Worrall signed from Nottingham Forest on a one-year loan deal, before Grezda signed a four-year deal, subject to international clearance.

The 23 year-old winger was Osijek’s best player last season, scoring five times in 26 league appearances.

He can also play as a creative midfielder, but one would have to assume he will be used primarily out wide after the injury to Jamie Murphy.

The success of signings like Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic and Ovie Ejaria shows Gerrard clearly has a knack for finding untapped talent, and fans are praising the signing of Grezda as well.

The Gers will of course face Celtic this weekend, the perfect chance to show they mean business after a fantastic summer window.

Danny Welbeck the kind of ambitious signing Celtic need

Celtic were rocked late in the transfer window as Moussa Dembele secured a move away from Celtic Park.

The 22-year-old developed into a crucial player for the Hoops after joining the club from Fulham back in 2016. Dembele lifted two Scottish league titles during his time at Celtic Park but was always expected to leave for a bigger club due to his impressive form. Despite links to the Premier League, the Frenchman secured a move back to his homeland, signing for Lyon in a deal worth around £20m.

The news would have come as a massive blow to Brendan Rodgers who had made the striker a key part of his side in the SPFL. Celtic weren’t given sufficient time to replace their prized asset with the transfer window slamming shut just hours after the deal was completed. Therefore, the ex-Liverpool boss could be in the market for a new forward when the window reopens in January.

One man he should consider signing is Arsenal hitman – Danny Welbeck. Valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt, the England international looked set to leave the Gunners during the summer with reports suggesting Unai Emery had told the forward he does not feature in his plans. However, Welbeck remains at the Emirates until the New Year at least. His spell at Arsenal has left much to be desired, and a career change could be just what he needs to force himself into Gareth Southgate’s England plans.

Welbeck made 28 appearances in the Premier League last season, 16 of which came from the bench. He netted five goals and bagged his first strike of the new campaign from the bench against West Ham back in August. With just one-year left on his contract, Celtic could bag themselves a bargain in January.

Still just 27-years-old, Welbeck has plenty of years left at the top level. A hard-working, intelligent forward – the former Manchester United man would be a perfect fit for Rodgers’ system at Celtic Park. This move should be a no-brainer for the Bhoys.

Anichebe return would ease Sunderland’s injury woes

Sunderland manager Jack Ross was dealt a bitter blow at the weekend, as his striker Chris Wyke looks to have sustained a serious injury.

The summer signing was just returning from an injury that had kept him out at the beginning of the season, but was stretchered off in his first league start.

The Black Cats also suffered their first loss of the season, falling 2-1 to Burton Albion. Manager Ross will not want this to initiate a slump in his side, and should look to replace Wyke as soon as possible.

The perfect candidate to replace the injured 25-year-old is former player Victor Anichebe. The Nigerian international played for Sunderland two seasons ago, in the club’s final season in the Premier League.

The 30-year-old spent last year at Chinese club Beijing Enterprises, but is now without a club. With no interest in the striker over the summer, Sunderland would be offering him a lifeline by giving him a contract. In that sense, this deal suits both parties.

Although this would be a step down for the forward, who has spent over ten years playing in the Premier League, any football would surely be better than none from his perspective.

Anichebe scored three goals in 18 appearances in the Premier League when he was last with The Black Cats, but could not prevent his team being relegated.

After the weekend’s loss, Sunderland are sitting in fourth place in the Championship table, five points behind leaders Portsmouth. They host 13th place Rochdale on Saturday, hoping to bounce back from their most recent defeat.

Leeds fans want Forshaw to start vs Sheffield Wednesday

Loads of Leeds fans have been running the rule over their defeat to Birmingham, and they all want Adam Forshaw to start in midfield against Sheffield Wednesday.

Forshaw had only played 18 minutes of football this season before his introduction on Saturday, and the experienced midfielder had a very positive influence on the match.

The 26-year-old, who racked up over 80 league appearances for Brentford and over 70 for Middlesbrough, replaced Mateusz Klich in the second half of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”299719″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Man Utd Beat Young Boys But Not New Boys”]

Klich has of course been in the form of his life so far this season, but Bielsa’s squad is already running thin, and fans are calling for more rotation to avoid any further injuries.

The trip to Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night offers Leeds a chance to immediately redeem themselves, and fans want Forshaw to start to help stifle the Owls’ key man Barry Bannan.
