His willingness to support Cricket Canada is much appreciated. This is the best it can get and we are all excited.”Desai is already with the Canada squad which is currently undergoing a training camp in Sri Lanka ahead of the WCL Division 2 Qualifiers.Canada will feature in the Division 2 Qualifiers next month, along with Hong Kong, Oman, Papua New Guinea, USA and the hosts Namibia. The matches will be in a round-robin format with Canada facing Hong Kong in their first match on April 20.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to make a “special” star one of his first Manchester United signings, according to a new report.
Man Utd’s January plans
With Ratcliffe taking control of sporting decisions at Old Trafford from the Glazers, some Red Devils supporters may be hoping to see the club active in the winter window.
That’s because Erik ten Hag’s side have had a mixed season to date, with back-to-back away defeats in the Premier League to West Ham and Nottingham Forest sandwiched in-between a dramatic comeback victory over Aston Villa.
The club now have the chance to bolster their squad this month, but it looks as if attention could be on moving some players out before any arrive. Recent reports have claimed that United are ready to accept an offer for Raphael Varane this month, with Jadon Sancho returning to Borussia Dortmund also on the cards.

When it comes to incomings, The Athletic shared a Man Utd transfer update earlier this week, saying that not a lot of money looks set to be available to Ten Hag this month but ‘United might squeeze out another low-cost loan’ for a new forward with RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy thought to be options.
Man Utd targeting Michael Olise
With January additions seemingly limited, Ratcliffe and INEOS may have their eyes on making their mark in the summer, and it looks as if a move or a Premier League star is on the cards.
According to The Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella, Man Utd are interested in making Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise ‘one of the first signings’ of the Ratcliffe era at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are planning a squad overhaul in the summer and are targeting Olise, who is ‘viewed as a player who could help revitalise United’s woeful attack’. He has a release clause in his new Crystal Palace contract, with his previous clause sitting at £35m before he signed new terms at Selhurst Park.
The 22-year-old has gone from strength to strength since moving to Palace from Reading in 2021 and has already enjoyed his best goalscoring season in the top flight, netting five times in nine appearances. (Michael Olise stats – Transfermarkt)
Primarily a right-winger, Olise has also featured as an attacking midfielder, central midfielder and on the left, showing the versatility he could offer at Old Trafford. He even scored a brilliant late free-kick against United last season at Selhurst Park.
Praised by teammate Joel Ward, Olise has been labelled a "special talent who could "go onto new heights".
“Michael’s a special talent. The world’s his oyster and he’s just getting better and better from game to game, so I think he’s going to go onto new heights and set the bar. If he continues that way, he’s going to go on to special things.”
Olise was wanted by Chelsea last year but decided to stay put at Palace, but following this update, as 2024 progresses, a move for the attacker could be one to keep an eye on.
Manchester United have struggled to get going this season, with injuries hindering the progress made last year.
The Red Devils have been dumped out of every cup competition bar the FA Cup, and they sit eighth in the Premier League.

With that in mind and the fact that United only score 1.1 goals per game on average, Erik ten Hag must look to add a new forward to his side.
Man Utd transfers latest – Nico Williams
According to UtdDistrict, Man United have set their sights on Nico Williams. It's suggested that the club's scouts have identified him as their prime versatile target for the month of January.
Spain'sNicoWilliamscelebrates scoring their sixth goal
As per a report from Spain, the Spaniard has a release clause of £43m in his contract at Athletic Club.
A move is much more likely to take place in the summer due to the large fee and United’s financial fair play situation, which prevents them from spending big in January.
How Nico Williams compares to Antony
Antony’s £82m move to Man United has been a disaster, highlighted by the fact that the Brazilian has failed to even register a goal contribution in 21 appearances for the Red Devils this season.
The United faithful are becoming increasingly frustrated with the 23-year-old's constant underwhelming performances and the signing of a new right winger could see his United career come to an end.
That new attacking star could be Williams, a player who has been labelled “dazzling” by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig. The star has been nothing short of electric this season in La Liga, scoring three and assisting five in 16 starts. The 21-year-old has become instrumental in the way his side attacks, showing great maturity and taking on plenty of responsibility despite his age.

As you can see, Williams absolutely wipes the floor with Antony. The former is an extremely fast winger who is a master at 1v1 scenarios, constantly taking a direct approach with the aim of getting into the box.
Furthermore, he’s almost unstoppable when dribbling, using his quick feet and agility to glide past defenders with ease, amassing nearly six progressive carries every 90 minutes. Impressively, he has the joint most successful dribbles in La Liga this season. On the other hand, Antony often decides to lay the ball off due to his lack of acceleration and power, making him easy to play against.
Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams.
Instead, Williams can progress the play via his ball-carrying, and he is a true creative spark. Unlike the Brazilian, he is two-footed and unpredictable which allows him to find space to cross the ball into the box. Antony doesn’t provide that type of service which has ultimately starved Rasmus Hojlund of chances this season, with the number 21 labelled as a “one-trick pony” by United Legend Paul Scholes.
It is clear that Williams would be a huge upgrade on Antony, and United must do all they can to acquire his signature with Ten Hag and his side in dire need of some more creativity in the side if they are to turn the ship around.
The Sri Lanka ODI captain, however, says he wants to play the domestic one-day tournament to get a close look at the World Cup squad

Lasith Malinga has been allowed to skip the domestic one-day tournament•BCCI
Lasith Malinga will now be available for Mumbai Indians through the entirety of April, with Sri Lanka Cricket granting the paceman permission to skip the domestic Super Provincial One-Day Tournament, which he was earlier expected to take part in. However, Malinga is keen to participate in the domestic tournament, because, as Sri Lanka’s limited-overs captain, he wants to have a close look at some of the players that are likely to feature in the World Cup squad. In a statement on Tuesday, SLC said that the decision to release Malinga was because “he would get an opportunity to play with much stronger opposition in the IPL tournament, which consist of international players.”Malinga told ESPNcricinfo that he would consult the Mumbai Indians management on whether he would be allowed to participate in the domestic one-day tournament, which is likely to be played between April 4 to 11, although the SLC has not yet released the final schedule for the tournament.”I’m very thankful to the board for having released me for the full IPL,” Malinga said. “But as the captain of the Sri Lanka ODI team, I also think it is important to play the provincial tournament, because I will also be able to see our players in action first hand. I will go to Mumbai and I’ll talk to the management there about getting released to play the provincial tournament.”Malinga will now join the Mumbai team, and is likely to be available for selection for their next match, away against Royal Challengers Bangalore, on Thursday. In case Malinga does return to Sri Lanka to play in the domestic one-dayers, he might leave after the April 3 match against Chennai Super Kings and miss about three matches in case his team – Galle – reach the final.Incidentally, it was only last week the SLC had a very different view on Malinga’s participation in the IPL. Last Friday, the SLC had stipulated that Malinga must play in the weeklong provincial one-day tournament in Sri Lanka in order to be considered for selection in the World Cup squad. But the board climbed down from that position over the weekend, until the final decision to allow Malinga to skip the provincial tournament in its entirety. The SLC decision comes on the back of intervention from BCCI, which wanted to ensure maximum availability of prominent overseas players in the IPL at least in the first half. Before the player auction in December, all the international boards had already notified the BCCI about the cut-off dates for their players to be released from the IPL. Barring New Zealand and West Indies, players from rest of the World Cup-participating countries would be leaving the IPL early to take part in preparatory camps or ODI series in the lead-up to the World Cup.Although there is some dissatisfaction on the Malinga issue within the board (at least one official believes Malinga used his contacts in India to get the BCCI to campaign for his release from the domestic tournament in Sri Lanka), the board’s decision is a reflection of the power the BCCI wields. Not only is SLC heavily reliant on India tours for broadcast income, the board is also hoping for the BCCI’s support with the launch of the Lankan Premier League, which is tentatively scheduled for September.Even if Malinga doesn’t play in the domestic tournament, he may yet be required to cut his IPL stint short in May, when Sri Lanka’s World Cup squad assembles for a pre-tournament camp. Sri Lanka are expected to undertake several weeks of acclimatisation and training in Scotland, ahead of the World Cup in England and Wales.

After going ten innings without a half-century, the opener roared back to form with an innings reminiscent of his century in last season’s final
The Report by Danyal Rasool23-Apr-20192:28
Hard to get a chance in Sunrisers’ playing XI – Shakib
Rocking up to the IPL after being the most prolific run-scorer in the Pakistan Super League just prior, it had been a mild surprise to see Shane Watson slump so sharply in the yellow of Chennai Super Kings. He had gone without a fifty in his first ten innings of the season, but the sight of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowlers, whom he had brutalised in last year’s final with 117 off 57 balls, was enough to reawaken the instinct that has made him a prized T20 asset all over the world. He didn’t quite get three figures this time, falling just four short, but 96 off 53 balls was enough to ensure Super Kings recovered from a slow start – they only got off the mark off the 11th ball of the innings – to chase down Sunrisers’ 175 with six wickets and one ball to spare.Super Kings won the toss for the ninth time in eleven matches, and they put Sunrisers in. The early wicket of Johnny Bairstow came amid a slow start, and even though David Warner continued his form with another half-century, a strike rate of 126 meant he wasn’t able to do enough damage for Sunrisers to post a total closer to 200. Manish Pandey picked up the slack, and finished unbeaten with 83 off 49, but Sunrisers struggled to find a weak link in the Super Kings bowling attack. Even though Sunrisers had seven wickets in the bank, the late acceleration that has become so vital in the IPL was largely absent from the later stages of their innings. An inconsistent bowling display and a resurgent Watson ensured the effort with the bat wasn’t quite enough.5:01
Tait: Watson’s always fancied facing spin
Watson’s masterclassWatson’s struggles had caused debate over his place in the Super Kings starting eleven, but they kept faith in the veteran Australian. When he batted out a maiden over from Bhuvneshwar Kumar – Sunrisers’ captain in the absence of Kane Williamson – to start the chase, it looked like today would be more of the same from the 37-year old. But Watson was just getting warmed up, and a six and four off Khaleel Ahmed in the fifth over were harbingers of a sleeping giant finally beginning to stir. Shakib went for a six soon after before Watson took a shine to Sandeep Sharma. Nineteen off the 12th over saw the asking rate slide dramatically, and an off-colour Rashid Khan was shown no mercy by Watson. In full flow all of a sudden, he smashed the 20-year old Afghan legspinner for two sixes and two fours in his last two overs. Soon after, the required rate was below six, and by the time Watson nicked off to the keeper, Chennai’s job was all but done.Shane Watson watches the ball sail away•BCCI
Chennai’s bowling consistencyHarbhajan Singh and Deepak Chahar may have been the only ones to take wickets for Chennai, but other than that, all five bowlers posted strikingly similar figures. Each conceded between 30 and 39 runs, and the absence of one bowler Sunrisers could pick on showed in the later stages of their innings. Despite having several wickets in hand, there appeared no coherent plan with regards to approaching the final onslaught, with Super Kings’ discipline shaving several runs off their target. Following Warner’s dismissal, Vijay Shankar never could get going, leaving Pandey to fight a lone hand against a well-drilled bowling attack. It was, as we were to see soon, in stark contrast to Sunrisers’ bowling effort…Sunrisers’ bowling strugglesIn the past two games, Rashi Khan conceded a total of 40 runs in his allocated eight overs. Not once had he allowed more than 27 in an innings this season, but today would reduce all those numbers to rubble. With Watson rampant, Rashid went for – by his standards – a colossal 44 in his four as Sunrisers’ saw their trump card neutralised comprehensively in the middle overs. To make matters worse, he wasn’t their most expensive bowler, with Sandeep Sharma conceding 54 in 3.5. Despite a valiant effort by Bhuvneshwar, who conceded just 18 in his four overs, the profligacy from the rest of the attack meant defending a medium-sized total became a near-insurmountable task.
Tottenham are thought to be in regular discussions to make a third January signing after Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner, with the player's club also willing to sell.
Spurs seal Werner and Dragusin deals
This first two weeks of the winter window has been one of the best in recent memory for Spurs, with manager Ange Postecoglou given real backing in his pursuit of early signings.
Tottenham could now make move for "tough" centre-back to replace Eric Dier

Indeed, the Australian was public in admitting that he wants new recruits through the door in quick fashion this month, with Lilywhites chairman Daniel Levy obliging.
"The January window, like for every club, is an important one," said Postecoglou on the January window last year (via football.london).
"My view on the January one is that if you can get your business done early in the window it certainly is more helpful because you leave it until the end of January and sometimes what you train to gain you've missed that opportunity by waiting a whole month."
Earlier this week, Spurs confirmed the signing of Werner from RB Leipzig on a six-month loan deal with an option to buy of around £15.5 million, while Dragusin joins in a £25 million deal from Genoa.
These two quick-fire moves come as a real boost for Postecoglou, with Dragusin coming in to shore up Spurs' back line which has been starved of options.
Both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have been absent for long periods over the last few months, leaving Postecoglou with little choice but to deploy a makeshift centre-back pairing of Emerson Royal and Ben Davies.
Meanwhile, Werner's arrival will provide another attacking outlet for Tottenham and versatility in the forward area.
Following Spurs' capture of the aforementioned duo, attention now turns to Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, with widespread reports suggesting that Postecoglou is keen on the 23-year-old.
Indeed, it is believed that Tottenham want a new midfield number eight and running man, with Gallagher fitting the bill in that respect.
The Englishman has been a star for the Blues this season, becoming a key player under manager Mauricio Pochettino. However, it is still believed that Chelsea could sell Gallagher in a shock move to fund their own transfer activity.
Spurs in "daily dialogue" over Gallagher
Football Insider have an update on this and Spurs' links to the midfielder, and it comes as a bit of good news. The outlet claims Tottenham are in "daily dialogue" over signing Gallagher, with Chelsea also "willing to sell" if their valuation of around £45-50 million is met.
Conor Gallagher for Chelsea
A potential stumbling block is the tension-filled relationship between Spurs and the west Londoners, but chairman Levy and co are working on a deal regardless as they eye "another marquee signing".
It will be interesting to see if they can get Gallagher through the door, and if they do, this January window would go down as a very memorable one at N17.
