Hampshire’s Liam Dawson bagged three evening wickets but could not stop Lancashire, led by a fifty from Haseeb Hameed, from batting out for a draw at the Ageas Bowl.Left arm spinner Dawson gave Hampshire hope of the win but Hameed and Liam Livingstone saw the visitors to the end.Hampshire remain cemented to the bottom of Division One, while Lancashire are in danger of being dragged in to a relegation dogfight with Surrey threatening to overtake them.Hampshire were given some early hope of clutching a victory from the off, as leg spinner Mason Crane found exaggerated turn.He took three of the six final Lancastrian first innings wickets with another tireless day twirling – bowling 48 and a half overs in the match. Will Smith, Hampshire’s captain, said: “In terms of the effort and desire to win was all we could ask. We probably created enough chances but that said you can’t fault the effort, we have fielded for 210 overs in a row.”Daws and Mason bowled 100 overs of them and bowled particularly well. We couldn’t force the win but there are a lot of positives.”At times the pitch appeared docile but all of a sudden it would come to life. It was a wicket which suited us.”Every game is important now. We have to approach the next five with a winning mentality. If we can come out with two wins we can climb the table.”Crane had night-watchman Simon Kerrigan caught behind to the last ball of the days’ first over and later found a thick edge from Jordan Clark drop to Ryan McLaren at second slip.In the afternoon he wrapped up the first innings by tempting Croft out his crease, stumped by the increasingly impressive Lewis McManus.Ryan McLaren sent Liam Livingstone’s off stump cartwheeling before Crane’s spin twin Dawson grabbed tail scalps of Tom Moores and Kyle Jarvis. With Lancashire 12 short of the follow on, Will Smith forced them to bat again and were left frustrated by openers Steven Croft and Hameed. The pair retreated deeply within their shells – dot ball followed dot ball, as they used up 25 of the 58 remaining overs.Dawson managed to get one top pop up with the first ball after tea, and Croft watched sullenly as it dropped into Gareth Andrew’s paws at silly point – Dawson’s 100th Specsavers County Championship wicket.Dawson managed to grab his fifth and sixth wickets of the afternoon – after only managing nine previously this season – soon after, as Lancashire threatened briefly to offer Hampshire a glimpse of winning the game.Luke Procter pushed to Tom Alsop at silly mid-on, before Alviro Petersen fell in an identical fashion six overs later. The stat that summed up the match, on a flat track, was the number of maidens bowled – over a full days’ worth of 98.But Hameed, unbeaten on 53 after his 142-ball half century, his second of the match, and Livingstone dropped anchor to avoid defeat – the captains eventually shaking hands with six left, the visitors still trailing by 63.

Man United Make 29 y/o Star Top Transfer Target

Manchester United are clear on who they want to add this summer, with Sky Sports reporting that Harry Kane is their number one top transfer priority this summer transfer window.

Who are Manchester United hoping to sign this summer?

The striker has been imperious as ever in the Premier League this season in spite of Tottenham's struggles. Even with Spurs currently sat in eighth in the league, Kane has continued to score goals on a regular basis.

Having played nearly every single top-flight game for the side this year – he has 37 appearances in total – the attacker has bagged 28 goals and has managed three assists. It's his best total since 2017/18 and shows that despite being 29 years of age, he is still at the very top of his game.

It means that Kane has now become one of the highest-scoring Premier League players of all time with 211 to his name – he currently stands second in the rankings. Only Alan Shearer stands above him but with plenty of time left to add to his total, it isn't out of the realms of possibility that he could overtake the amount the former Magpies man managed (260).

harry-kane-transfer-newcastle-united-premier-league

Having impressed for so long, Man United have now made it their number one priority to add the player to their ranks this summer.

According to Sky Sports, the Red Devils have put the Spurs man at the very top of their wanted list in their search for another forward option. A deal won't be easy, with Tottenham as determined as ever to keep the England international as the club it seems. However, it hasn't stopped Erik ten Hag's side from making him one of their most wanted men during the transfer window.

They have also registered an interest in both Declan Rice and Mason Mount, but the report adds that they are unlikely to sign all three players.

Will Harry Kane join Man United?

The striker has once more been one of the best players in the entire Premier League, which is shown by his WhoScored rating of 7.47. Only Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne rank above him and when you consider the difference in terms of the two team's positioning this campaign, it is good going by the England international.

In fact, City boss Pep Guardiola has also heaped praise on the player, which is a big compliment coming from the former Barcelona man. He said that Kane is an "exceptional player" and that he may also be "one of the best strikers" that the manager has ever seen.

If United did sign him then, their goalscoring worries could be over, and he would be exactly the kind of upgrade to their strikeforce that they need after scoring the fewest number of goals out of the top seven sides this season.

Arsenal Could Sign £34m Star From Premier League Rivals

Arsenal seem to have identified one of their key targets for this summer, having already made a move towards securing his signature.

What's the latest on Joao Cancelo to Arsenal?

That's according to Fabrizio Romano, who spoke to GIVEMESPORT on the Gunners' pursuit of Manchester City star Joao Cancelo.

He said: "For Cancelo, yes, they are interested. They had some contact, and they have very good relationship with these agents. So there was a conversation over the possibility to sign Cancelo."

Whilst Bayern Munich has opted against pursuing the €70m (£60m) buy option they held in his loan deal, apparently the treble-chasing outfit are now reportedly willing to lower that price to around €40m (£34m). This has alerted Barcelona as well as Mikel Arteta, which could make for an interesting battle this summer.

Would Joao Cancelo fit Arsenal's system?

Whilst Ben White and Bukayo Saka boast a fine partnership down the right flank, with the latter allowed to flourish offensively given he is backed up by the pure defensive exploits of the former, the Citizens have proven that offence is often the best form of defence.

Their all-out philosophy strangles the opposition of the ball, and their relentless waves of attack almost always bear fruit.

Therefore, by replacing the former Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back with the Portugal international, at the very least that right-wing will almost guarantee success in the final third, by having two players of such immense quality combining.

Last term Saka notched 15 goals and 11 assists, whilst the season prior Cancelo would offer up seven assists whilst maintaining 1.1 key passes and a further 2.3 tackles per game, via Sofascore.

He does not completely sacrifice solidity to be a key creative influence, yet manages to remain the "playmaker" that Rio Ferdinand branded him back in 2021.

Bukayo Saka for Arsenal

His perfection of the inverted full-back role made him such a mainstay under Pep Guardiola, starting 36 league matches that term, and in moving to the Emirates, he could force a huge reshuffle in their defence that would make them more solid, stronger in depth and more potent in attack.

White could shift across as a more capable backup for William Saliba, and in having the 29-year-old on the opposite flank to Oleksandr Zinchenko, they would truly emphasise all-out control in every phase of the match.

However, the most exciting combination would undoubtedly be with Saka, as a couple of creative leaders to overload one side. They both boast pace and dynamism, yet technical quality beyond most in their respective positions.

It is a partnership that would strike fear into every left back in the country, and likely have Guardiola worried about just how strong he continues to make his nearest rival.

Billings takes satisfaction in epic show of restraint

Sam Billings and Darren Stevens amassed Kent’s highest fifth-wicket stand in Championship cricket, beating a previous best of 254 in 1910

“Look, if you bought Stones tickets and Jagger didn’t play Satisfaction, how would you feel? Would you be happy?”So asks Dustin Hoffman of Jon Favreau in the film Chef: the former a restauranteur desperate to turnaround an ailing business – the latter a chef searching for a deeper meaning to life. Favreau says no. Hoffman agrees: “You’d burn the place to the f****ng ground!”The reverse sweep is Sam Billings’ “Satisfaction”: a hit he has at his fingertips, able to be unleashed at any time. Fans go into games expecting him to play it and many leave disappointed when he doesn’t. It has become synonymous with his name: “Billings” and “reverse sweep” together paints a very vivid picture of quick footwork and faster hands, in one smooth yet devastating movement. But Billings is keen to show that, particularly in red-ball cricket, he is so much more than a player who panders to the New Age crowd. Speaking at stumps, after striking 171 from 202 balls for his third first-class hundred – a second for Kent – he was in reflective mood: “You don’t want to play the way people think you should play, or just allow people to talk about you in just one way. Actually, sometimes I want to be the one that can grit it out and stand up. I’m not just going to panic and bring out the sweep.”Together, he and Darren Stevens stood higher than any other, as they amassed Kent’s highest fifth-wicket stand in Championship cricket, beating a previous best of 254 set way back in 1910 against Lancashire in Tunbridge Wells, with shots that might have caused fainting in the aisles. Even umpire Alex Wharf made the point to Billings at the non-striker’s end – rarely will you see two attacking players go blow for blow without offering a chance or two for the 49.2 overs they batted. Stevens would be the first of the pair to offer one, departing to a catch at slip from Michael Klinger off the bowling of Craig Miles. By then, he had contributed 140 of the 258 partnership and Billings was comfortable in three figures. He got to his hundred, in only his third innings this season, off his 128th ball, patting the ball around until 99 before beating midwicket with a wristy flick over the fielder’s head for four. A couple of delays for rain and bad light saw him start again with Will Gidman, who notched a half-century against his former club, as Billings brought out the classic hits for the afternoon set, as Jack Taylor was strummed easily through backward point for an array of fours, each as risk-free as the last. That is the key with Billings’ reverse sweep. It is a shot he has mastered through hours and sweat. It is so much more than a party trick. It is the culmination of the very best of him as a talented, hard-working cricketer.Unsurprisingly, he is forthright about its misrepresentation: “The old-school view on it is that it’s a dodgy shot to hit. I hit that shot probably better than my normal sweep. And I’d definitely back myself against an off-spinner to hit a reverse sweep than a cover drive, for instance. People might say, ‘oh, stop being ridiculous’. But if you’re not going to have a point there, I’ll play it every ball.” By the end of Taylor’s 15 overs, which went for 100 runs, he only had two fielders in the inner ring.Billings has been on at his coaches to bat him at No.5 for the last year or so. He believes he is capable of scoring big hundreds and, by his own admission, “should have got a double today”. He came within an inch of uppercutting his own stumps when he galloped down the crease and failed to beat Liam Norwell at mid off to depart for a first-class best of 171.What was noticeable during his innings was that his judgement and base seem in a sound place. For that, he gives thanks to the Championship, which has forced him to address some bad habits that he can hide in limited-overs cricket. “My basics haven’t been quite there in the last six months. And that’s just the nature of playing Twenty20 and one-day cricket the whole time: things just creep in.”One of the elements encroaching into Billings’ game was a more open stance. He wondered out loud to Kent coach Matt Walker if that was the case. Daniel Bell-Drummond, who has spent close to a decade with Billings, answered on Walker’s behalf: “without a doubt. Even since the winter!” The last fortnight has been spent redressing that issue.”As disappointing as it is not to be in the ODIs, it’s been a blessing in disguise. That’s been the most pleasing thing – I made a conscious effort to work on something technical and it has bared fruit this innings.”Once the final rain delay came, Kent skipper Sam Northeast decided to call off the innings, declaring at the tea interval with a lead of 312. And so, Stevens amplified the noise for a new contract with an array of deliveries moving in before undoing Gloucestershire’s top order with the odd one moving out. Chris Dent gave him an easy return catch, Will Tavare left incorrectly outside off stump before Klinger covered his stumps but nicked off to Matt Coles, via a deflection of Billings, at first slip.Tomorrow should bring fewer interruptions and, with six wickets still to get, the stage is set for Kent to complete a comprehensive innings victory.

Everton Eyeing Swoop To Sign New £5m Midfielder For Dyche

Everton are interested in a summer deal to bring Angers SCO midfielder Batista Mendy to the Premier League, according to reports.

Who is Batista Mendy?

Mendy first arrived at the Raymond Kopa Stadium from FC Nantes on a free transfer back in 2021, and he’s since gone on to make a total of 73 appearances to date. The Frenchman started 35 out of the 38 Ligue 1 games last season and established himself as Alexandre Dujeux’s third best-performing defensive player, but despite his displays, his future is up in the air.

The Kelyxane Sport Agency client will be out of contract at the end of next season meaning that the upcoming window will be his club’s final big opportunity to cash in should they not want to risk losing him for free in 12 months time, and if he was to depart, he won’t be short of potential suitors in the top-flight.

Are Everton signing Mendy?

According to L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), Mendy is being “followed” by Everton, Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the midfielder having “emerged as a target” for the trio ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Angers are expected to sell their prized asset in the coming weeks and months and have already placed a €6m (£5m) price tag on his head, a fee that they would be happy to receive in order to “part ways” with him.

The Toffees and Sean Dyche “want to take advantage” of his side’s relegation to see if they could “lower” the demanded sum, but it’s currently “not clear” whether they would be willing to do such a thing.

Angers SCO midfielder Batista Mendy.

Should Farhad Moshiri move for Mendy?

Everton will be in need of several new reinforcements over the summer to ensure that they don’t find themselves in danger of relegation again next season, but Mendy is not a player that they should be aiming to bring to Merseyside.

France’s former U19s international was ranked by WhoScored as Angers’ 16th overall worst-performing player last campaign with a match rating of 6.35, not to mention that he was averaging 1.9 fouls per league game which was higher than any other of his fellow teammates.

The 6 foot 3 defensive midfield colossus also lacks any kind of threat going forward having posted zero goals or assists across all competitions during the previous term, so fails to have a positive impact at either end of the pitch, therefore making this a deal that the hierarchy should avoid.

'I don't feel any pressure as captain' – Holder

While calling for people to be patient with West Indies’ developing side, captain Jason Holder has said that there are signs of progress

ESPNcricinfo staff25-Oct-20161:53

West Indies lose eight out of eight in UAE

In the wake of West Indies’ 133-run defeat in the second Test in Abu Dhabi, captain Jason Holder has said that his young, inexperienced side is making progress, but emphasised that it would take time for that to reflect in the results they achieve.”I don’t feel any pressure as captain,” Holder said. “It is a young and inexperienced squad; it will take time to get the results we have been looking for. We have been inconsistent for the last number of years. I’m here to do a job and I’m trying to do the best I possibly can.”West Indies have had a prolonged underwhelming spell in Test cricket and are currently ranked No. 8 in the format. However, they have turned in a couple of spirited performances recently; they saved the second Test against India in Kingston in July-August and came from behind to run Pakistan close in the first Test in Dubai.Holder asked for patience in West Indies’ developing team and cited their performance in the Dubai Test as evidence that they are moving in the right direction.”We understand the position we are in, but it’s been almost a decade that we have been struggling. We are in situation where we are trying to get things right, but also taking in some young players. It will take some time for these boys to develop and we have to give them the opportunity to do so.”If you have watched our cricket for the last couple of months, we have shown signs of improvement. In Dubai, we put ourselves in a position from where we could have won it. It is just a matter of consistency here.”While consistency may be a longer-term project, West Indies’ immediate task is to find a way to avoid a series whitewash as they head to Sharjah for the third Test. After whitewashes in the T20I and ODI series on the tour so far, even a hard-fought draw in Sharjah might represent progress.Holder said the side must convert starts and take all their chances in order to push for positive results.”The difference between our team and the big teams is that we have not capitalised after getting starts and that is due to the lack of experience. We haven’t carried on. Also, if you give chances to good players, they make you pay. We put down a few chances and that hurt us in this Test match. At this level, giving good players two opportunities is bad.”

Haryana bowled out for 178 after Mandal four-for

Left-arm spinner Ajay Mandal’s second four-wicket haul helped Chhattisgarh bowl Haryana out for 178 in Guwahati. After Haryana elected to bat, the early damage was caused by seamer Pankaj Rao – who removed opener Nitin Saini and Himanshu Rana – and Mandal, who left them struggling on 63 for 6. Rohit Sharma, who top-scored with 45, and Harshal Patel (34) mended things slightly with a 64-run partnership, before Patel fell to the part-time medium-pace of Abhimanyu Chauhan. There were a few minor contributions from the lower order before Haryana folded up in the 55th over. Seamer Abhishek Tamrakar chipped in with two wickets.Chhattisgarh were solid in their reply, ending the day on 68 for 1.Opener Bishal Ghosh’s century and Smit Patel’s second successive ton were instrumental in Tripura racking up 305 for 2 against Himachal Pradesh in Kalyani. Sent in to bat, Tripura had a solid start courtesy a 65-run opening stand between Ghosh and Udiyan Bose. After Bose was bowled by Pankaj Jaiswal, Ghosh and Patel raised 230 runs for the second wicket. Ghosh, 20, however, fell four short of his 150 in the penultimate over of the day.Centuries from captain Sagun Kamat and debutant opener Sumiran Amonkar powered Goa to 333 for 2 at stumps against Services in Cuttack. Services’ decision to bowl was vindicated almost immediately as Diwesh Pathania had opener Swapnil Asnodkar caught behind in the first over. But, Kamat and Amonkar scored at a brisk pace while add 237 runs, before Amonkar was trapped lbw by Pathania for 101 off 195 balls. Kamat, however, put on an unbroken partnership of 91 runs with Snehal Kauthankar (35*), and remained unbeaten on 177 off 267 balls. That Services had a hard day was further illustrated by the fact that seven of the eight bowlers used had no success.Half-centuries from Sachin Baby and Jalaj Saxena steered Kerala to 223 for 4 after they elected to bat against Hyderabad in Bhubaneswar. After opener VA Jagadeesh was removed by left-arm seamer Chama Milind in the fourth over of the day, Bhavin Thakkar (38) and Rohan Prem (41) put on 75 runs for the second wicket. Hyderabad’s bowlers hit back with three quicket wickets; Sanju Samson and Prem were dismissed for the addition of merely two runs in the space of 6.5 overs. Baby and Saxena, however, arrested the slide and put on an unbroken stand of 114 runs.Opener Shubham Khajuria’s 90 held Jammu & Kashmir’s innings together as Andhra’s seamers reduced them to 205 for 6 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Electing to bowl, Andhra prised out three of J&K’s top-four batsmen for 51 runs. Khajuria and Parvez Rasool (45) then added 99 runs, but once D Siva Kumar had Rasool caught behind, J&K lost two more wickets for 36 runs. Seamers Siva Kumar and DP Vijayakumar, and left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt picked up two wickets each.
