Stupid to turn it down: Leicester fans divided over potential Maguire departure

[ad_pod ]

One of the transfer sagas of the summer could well involve Harry Maguire. The defender was the subject of interest from Manchester United last year but the 26-year-old is again firmly in their minds.

The Sun reported over the weekend that United were willing to meet Leicester’s mega £80m evaluation of the centre back with Ed Woodward set to cave into their demands.

A potential transfer fee that high seems absurd but some Foxes fans took to Twitter to claim that they still wouldn’t move him on.

The reaction was mixed but one supporter suggested that Leicester weren’t a selling club anymore whilst another said that money wouldn’t replace Maguire.

However, other fans were more eager to sell. A further supporter said they’d be fools not to accept an offer of £80m. One member of the King Power faithful meanwhile made reference to the number of central defenders already there.

Leicester’s number 15 played a part in 31 Premier League fixtures last season, scoring three goals in the process.

He also played a vital hand in England’s run to the Nations League finals this summer as they missed out on a chance of securing a trophy after losing to the Netherlands.

Here’s the best of the reaction.

Many Leeds fans don’t want Hugill transfer

[ad_pod ]

Many Leeds United fans aren’t impressed after Jordan Hugill was named as the club’s latest transfer target.

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon on Twitter, Leeds along with Preston, Sheffield Wednesday and Wigan are looking at signing the West Ham forward.

Whites supporters are understandably quite concerned about these links.

Leeds had a lot of trouble finding the back of the net last season. Their conversion rate was the worst in the division, and Hugill doesn’t look like the solution to that problem.

The 27-year-old scored just six goals last season, and fans on social media have been blasting his playing ability.

One supporter said that he would prefer if Jay-Roy Grot was brought back into the fold, while another claimed that Hugill is just as bad as Patrick Bamford.

It remains to be seen whether the striker will become a United player this summer, but if he does it certainly won’t be a popular signing.

Liverpool fans react as Naby Keita suffers injury blow at Africa Cup of Nations

[ad_pod ]

Having joined Liverpool from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, Naby Keita arrived ready to become a mainstay of the Reds’ first-team.

After being phased into the side by Jurgen Klopp, the 24-year-old really began to shine and offered the Reds some much-needed creativity and goal threat from midfield.

However, after pulling up with an injury in the 3-0 defeat to Barcelona, Keita’s involvement in his country’s Africa Cup of Nations this summer was in jeopardy, but was seemingly rushed into action for the tournament.

Now, Guinea have confirmed (via Foot 224) that Keita suffered shin and thigh injuries during the 1-0 defeat to Nigeria and that he has been ruled out of their game against Burundi on Sunday.

After hearing that their midfielder had fallen to a fresh injury blow, Liverpool fans took to Twitter to vent their frustrations and seemed to point the finger at Guinea’s hierarchy for failing to take care of Keita.

Indeed, many begged the question as to why the former Leipzig man was even on the trip in the first place and suggested he should have been given adequate time to recover from his injury at the Camp Nou.

Check out some of the reaction of Liverpool fans below:

Wijnaldum and Moreno reply to Firmino’s Instagram snap

[ad_pod ]

It’s been over a month since Liverpool won the Champions League, but Roberto Firmino is still very much in celebratory mood.

Brazil have hosted and won the 2019 iteration of the Copa America and they have done it in quite the impressive fashion, only failing to win one game – a goalless draw with Venezuela in the group stage.

Apart from that game, it’s been goals galore and Firmino certainly played his part with two goals and three assists in six games in the competition.

The Liverpool forward posted a celebratory snap on

/BzqR-ayFMvN/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram after beating Peru in the final, which caught the eye of his teammates and friends.

Georginio Wijnaldum and Alberto Moreno were both in awe of the snap, which saw Firmino celebrate the title with his family. Both players posted a series of emojis in support of their friend and in Moreno’s case, ex-teammate.

It’s been an extremely successful season for Firmino and this Copa America triumph is just the icing on the cake.

He is already a king of Europe with the Reds and came close to Premier League glory too, falling behind Manchester City by a solitary point.

Leeds fans fume as Pontus Jansson looks set to depart the club

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Leeds fans have taken to Twitter in fury after Phil Hay reported that Pontus Jansson is close to leaving the club for a fee of just £5.5m.

Hay reveals that there is an offer on the table from another English club, rumoured to be Brentford, and that the deal is set to be confirmed imminently.

Thogden challenged himself to DM 100 footballers on Instagram. Find out who replied in the video below…

Apparently, there have been issues behind the scenes with the Sweden international and boss Marcelo Bielsa, and Hay believes that if the Argentine wanted Jansson to stay, he would be staying at Elland Road – this exit is more to do with the 28-year-old’s attitude and personality.

The 6 foot 4 centre-back seems to be a well-liked figure at Leeds given the fury of the supporters in the tweets below, who seem outraged that this deal has been allowed to go through for such a small fee.

Jansson is one of Leeds’ best players and arguably one of the best in the Championship – he made the PFA Team of the Season for his efforts in 2018/19.

As a result, the supporters on Twitter seem devastated at the news and certainly haven’t reacted too well…

Nikola Milenkovic can be a great Maguire alternative for Man Utd

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United have made an enquiry for Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic and are interested in signing him this summer.

Reports in January earlier this year had spoke of United’s desire to bring the Serbia international to Old Trafford, but the Red Devils did not manage to pull off a deal.

It now appears however that the Red Devils are keen to revive their interest in the 21-year-old.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

And with suggestions that United’s prime defensive target Harry Maguire could cost upwards of £70m, a move for Milenkovic may make just as much sense financially as it does footballing wise.

Standing at 6 foot 5, Milenkovic is a towering presence in the Viola’s backline; indeed, his height makes him taller than Maguire by an inch. The profile that United are looking for in the two is evident; physically dominant centre-halves who couple the art of old school defending with a real modern day quality of playing out from the back.

Despite playing in a Fiorentina side that finished just above the relegation zone in Serie A, Milenkovic enjoyed a fine personal campaign. The Serbian averaged 1.7 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game, which comfortably betters Maguire’s total of 1 tackle and 1.2 interceptions per game in the Premier League.

Both are strong and decisive in the tackle but show a willingness to get in front of their man to pinch the ball off them high up the pitch. It’s the kind of front-foot defending United need if they are to fully embrace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s desire to dominate games next season.

Whilst both are comfortable enough on the ball, the disparity between the number of long balls played by the two is startling and is a reflection of how Fiorentina and Leicester typically play. The Italian side look to build out from the back and Milenkovic plays a key role in drifting slightly wider to open up passing lanes to the winger.

The Foxes on the other hand have notoriously been a counter-attacking side and Maguire’s 6.2 long balls per game can be attributed to their desire to get Jamie Vardy clean through on goal as quickly as possible.

Whilst Maguire might be Premier League proven, Milenkovic’s age, physical profile and confidence on the ball could make him an intriguing alternative to the England international for United this summer.

Rangers fans are delighted at the club’s latest inclusion initiative

[ad_pod ]

Rangers have announced their new ‘Everyone Anyone’ campaign and the club’s supporters are fully behind it.

The initiative aims to promote equality and modernise the club, as well as championing diversity and togetherness.

The announcement will be followed by events at Ibrox, the Hummel Training Centre and across the community.

It will also set out a clear message of zero tolerance to all forms of discrimination on and off the pitch. Both Steven Gerrard and Steve Clarke suffered sectarian abuse at Ibrox last season and the ‘Everyone Anyone’ campaign will aim to deal with these sorts of problems.

Then-Kilmarnock manager Clarke was on the end of abuse from the home support at Ibrox, whereas Gerrard faced sectarian chants directed towards him from travelling Aberdeen fans.

It’s hoped that this initiative will help target an issue that is all too prevalent in Scottish society, and here’s what the Rangers supporters had to say about the club’s big announcement on Twitter…

West Ham left-back Arthur Masuaku earns new deal with excellent 2018/19 displays

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Arthur Masuaku has signed a new contract at West Ham United.

The Hammers left-back has committed himself to another five years at the London Stadium after a season in which he emerged as the club’s go-to left-back.

He was not ever-present in the Premier League but he made a total of 23 appearances in the top-flight and played every minute of the club’s final five games; the Irons lost just one of those outings.

Masuaku is 25 and is approaching his peak, having enjoyed a superb season in 2018/19.

In his 23 outings, per WhoScored, Masuaku averaged 2.5 tackles per game. That’s exceptional for a player who has to combine attacking thrust with defensive assiduity.

Add to that his 1.6 interceptions per game and the picture looks a little clearer; the left-back is equally at home in possession as he is out of it.

Indeed, his 0.6 key passes per game does not appear all that impressive on the face of it but it suggests that he will be creating a goalscoring opportunity at least once every two games; no mean feat for a defender. His 1.6 dribbles per game is exceptional, too, as he routinely looks to carry the ball up the left flank.

Masuaku also averaged 38.3 passes per game at an accuracy of 83.3%, with 2.2 long balls included.

The DR Congo international makes 2.4 clearances per game and, while he could be better at winning the ball back – he is dribbled past 1.1 times in each match – this is a supremely talented defender.

Indeed, sources at West Ham have confirmed that Manuel Pellegrini believes that Masuaku has all the talent required to be the club’s first-choice full-back for the next few seasons and is delighted he has penned new terms.

Having signed a new deal, one feels that Masuaku will only improve as his playing time continues to grow.

In 2019/20, he is likely to be placed ahead of Aaron Cresswell in the club’s pecking order and it makes sense; he was excellent last season and can surely pick up where he left off next term.

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa’s hard work will be undone if Kemar Roofe leaves

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to a report in The Daily Mail, Leeds United attacker Kemar Roofe is in talks with Anderlecht over a £7m move, and his departure would undo all of the hard work manager Marcelo Bielsa put in with him last season.

What’s the word, then?

Well, The Daily Mail report that the 26-year-old, who only has a year left on his contract at Elland Road, is keen to link up with new Anderlecht manager Vincent Kompany in Belgium, and discussions are underway.

The Daily Mail add that the former Oxford United man has been offered new terms by the Yorkshire outfit, but as of yet nothing has been agreed between the two parties with the latest story suggesting he could be on his way.

Leeds’ Championship campaign starts on Sunday against Bristol City, but the striker wouldn’t have been involved anyway following the injury he suffered during the pre-season tour of Australia.

Big blow for Bielsa

When Roofe arrived in a £3m deal from Oxford in 2016, hopes would have been high that he could hit the ground running given his impressive goalscoring record – 31 in 65 – for the U’s.

Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

However, the truth was that he struggled – especially in his debut campaign when he netted just three times in 42 Championship games – initially to nail down a position in the side, often playing out wide.

While he was improved during the 2017/18 campaign, it wasn’t until Bielsa was appointed by the Whites that he truly became a key player.

The experienced Argentine manager deployed the 26-year-old through the middle as a centre-forward more often than not, and the gamble paid off as he ended last season as the club’s top marksman despite suffering injury issues and only playing 33 league games.

Making him the focal point of the team worked wonders and Roofe has even admitted how much his boss helped him, and Bielsa has to take huge credit for the work he put in with the Englishman on the training ground to make that happen.

Thogden ranks all 24 Championship away kits in the video below…

Should the attacker leave in the coming days for Anderlecht however, all of that hard graft will be undone and it is hardly great news on the eve of the 2019/20 campaign – especially when Patrick Bamford is your only senior striker.

Ex-Arsenal player Laurent Koscielny sends a message to the fans following his exit

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal have finally made the transfer of Laurent Koscielny to French side Bordeaux official.

The experienced centre-back, who has already made 353 appearances for the London team, scoring 27 goals and assisting further five, will be continuing his career back home in France.

Koscielny joined the Gunners from Lorient in 2010 and was also the part of the squad that lifted the Emirates FA Cup back in 2014, 2015 and finally, two years ago, in 2017.

[ad_pod ]

The Frenchman was also entering the final year of his contract so Arsenal decided it would be in both sides’ best interest to allow this transfer to go through.

Now that the announcement has been made official, Koscielny took to

/B01hzXaFZQ9/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram to send a heartfelt message to the fans.

Of course, he mentioned all the happy years and moments he spent with the Gunners and also stated how this was indeed a decision that was long in making.

The club also thanked him for his services and wished him all the best in the future.
